iPad lost WiFi signal everytime i wakes up

HI all,
I just got my iPad Wifi for 2 days, everything works like in heaven except the WiFi problem...
And I am not sure if this is related to the weak signal problem that everyone is having in another thread, the problem that I am having is more related to losing a presistent WiFi connection everytime iPad wakes up from the sleep.

It does not happen with my iPod/iPhone at all. But it is frustrating and idiotic to have to go into setting and press the wifi AP name before I can use the iPad.

Any advice?

I tried turning down the brightness and turning off the auto brightness. Did not help me connect. I waited for the connection pop up and dismissed it many times but it does not connect. I have tried to connect from the settings, WiFi and it does not connect and does not even ask for my password anymore. Whatever problem I have is not minor and is not going away. I plan to bring it back to the Apple store tomorrow. I have an iPhone and a Mac book and both are connected to this network as well as my Mac 20 desktop. This is a problem with the iPad only.

The same issue is making me crazy. At the same time that I've worked all day on my laptop without losing a connection, I've gotten this same message a dozen or more times on my iPad. It prompts for passwords sometimes, but entering a password does not resolve the issue, canceling out does not resolve the issue. Eventually, I get my connection back...generally after I've put the thing down in frustration. 3 days in, this is my only gripe...it's tarnishing my otherwise giddy enthusiasm.

Just thought it would help to jump in at this point. I have had the same problem with my IPad. I returned the first one and the second one does the same thing. So far it appears that the problem is with the IPad and certain routers. I have a FIOS router. If you call Verizon, they know all about it, but are waiting for Apple to fix it. I just got off the phone with Apple support, who are trying to be very helpful. The latest fix (or work around) is to change the type of security used in the router. The tech support person thinks that will work, but we'll see.

I travel with my iPad, and I can say that there is a definite difference based on the router you connect to. At many public Wi-Fi, I have no problems. I can connect at Marriott, and Hilton...but not at home. I have found that many people are on the AT&T uVerse forum having the same issue, with iPads and AT&T.

I followed some brothers' advice and set my home router to send 802.11G only rather than mixed mode (G/B/N). The situation is significantly improved. I cannot say it has resolved my problem, but at least now it knows how to connect to a SSID without asking for my WEP key again.

I think it is a piece of advice that worth trying.

I had the exact same problem. Then a post here by mrinternet fixed it. Go to:

1) Settings--->wifi

2) turn wifi off--->then back on

3) select the network you want to connect to

4) near the bottom, select HTTP proxy to Manual, then just leave it alone

I don't understand how this works, but it solved the problem of my iPad forgetting networks upon waking. Or when it was asleep and I traveled between networks i.e. home and school.

I had same problem with my ipad just lossing wifi connection with at&t router, constantly asking for password, or just cannot connect to internet in safari, mail, ibooks, ect... I had 11 great trouble free days with my ipad till a few hours ago. No internet. My MacBook Pro connects great. So I knew it was the ipad. Weird, it would be connected in settings wifi menu. But all internet apps would say no internet. I tried Supersco82 post suggestion to change the "HTTP proxy to manual"... happy to say it worked. Hope that the end of that. Just wanted to confirm this fix. Thank you.

That's awesome!!! I think this is just a temporary fix...hopefully the issue will be resolved with an update. Since this works I'm pretty sure it's just a software issue thankfully.

I became so exasperated with the lost WiFi and having to enter my password/WEP key each time, that I brought it to the genius bar. Friday evening was particularly annoying. I was reading email, responding and in the middle of that it would prompt me to connect to my network and enter that WEP password (which is too long to remember).

The genius who helped me said that he had not seen any iPads come in with this problen, which was curious.

He ran some diagnostics, there were no real conclusions with that test.

We ended up restoring the iPad - and starting it over as if it were a new ipad. I did this instore with the tech to ensure it was done OK and in case I continued to have issues at least I would know this part of the process/troubleshooting was done correctly and in his presense.

This was this past Saturday afternoon. I have not had the dropped wifi/please neter your WEP password issue since. It seemed that I recall some new firmware was installed during the restore process. I remember he commented/noticed that that. I wonder if that fixed the problem. I wonder why so mysterious though.

Glad I found this thread...I was getting really ****** off about the wifi issue on my ipad, good to know I wasn't crazy, and this issue has been a problem for others as well. apple needs to fix this, but we prob. won't see any action on this until the next update...i spent 500+ on this thing for it not to work, it's really hard not to be ****** off about that, you know?

ANYWAY, thanks supersco82, your suggestion to set the HTTP Proxy to Manual fixes the issue for now. i'll check back into this thread in a week or so to let you all know if it still works.

Think I've solved it. Took my IPad back to the store yesterday because it didn't only get disconnected after shutdown, it also kept asking for the WEP key. I did three things:
1. change router security from WEP to WPA2 (as suggested by one of the Apple sales people)
2. upped the screen brightness
3. upped my routers signal strength from 4 to 8 (on a scale of 1-10)
Don't know if #2 and 3 were necessary, but did it anyway.
Problem did not re-occur since.
I hope this helps,
John
