Hi,

To change the port in iChat 5
Make sure SSL is On/Selected
Change port and Press the Enter Key to "Set" the port (this bit is different to older versions)

I would also turn SSL Off afterwards.
(If this server drops out iChat will connect Not using SSL and requires a Manual reset to take effect - so I prefer to know what it is set to)

Ok this is really odd because my Ichat was connected to one of my accounts and the settings were all fine and now on my other account my buddy still isnt showing up and the settings are the same as this account. What could be going wrong? I want my buddy to show up on the other account, but they arnt. Any suggestions? The account that is connected looks a little different to the one that is my origional aim account. I just realised it could be a jabber account problem cause it connects to jabber instead of aim like my aim does. And I know its aim account not a jabber account. My jabber account was my facebook could it of been confused because its the same screen name but just with aim?

Hi,

If you have two Screen Names and your Buddy is only using one of them at his end AND he has Allow Buddy List only then he will appear Off-Line to one of your Screen Names.

To state it as if you were the Buddy.
Lets Buddy 1 has two Screen Names A and B
You Add Buddy A to your Buddy List
Then you go to iChat > Preferences > Accounts > Security Settings tab
In here you set the option to Allow Buddy List Only

Your Buddy will only see you as On-line in his A Screen Name Buddy list even if he has added you to both.
His B Buddy List will not see you as On-Line as you have not Allowed him to

Providing that you have not entered the Jabber Screen Name as an AIM type by mistake in the iChat > Preferences > Accounts > + Button drop down bit that chooses the Account type for the Buddy List there should be no confusion.

Ok so if I have that option checked on both names then what happens they is still not showing up on the first name and they are not showing on my aim name. Any ideas. I know it's not there account they told me I'm not blocked cause it was fine before aim went down. I just want this fixed it's frustrating me. Help please?

Hi,

You do not need to make that setting.
It was just an example of what to do - and what he might have done when you told him the new Screen Name.

I take you mean you had both Screen Names/Buddy lists working before the issue at AIM last week.

Try deleting com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist and restarting iChat.
This file is in your Home Folder/Library/Preferences.

Thankyou, I think its working again if its not I'll let you know not sure because at the moment there offline anyway I had block people in my check list checked when I realised the names were already there. So then now I moved it to Allow anyone because thats what my other working account says. I just hope it keeps my block list checked cause I dont want to talk to those people at all. Do you think this could work? Why are settings so difficult. I am on ichat 5. I think it should of been checked on this setting all the time.

Hi,

Everyone can get added to the Block All list if you try out Parental Controls in another Mac User Account and don't turn it off before returning to your regular Mac User Account.

You should delete those from the Block List that you want to Contact. (It does not remove them from iChat, just the Block List).

You can then go back to using Block Certain People when the list is back to normal.

It's not that the setting are any different from iChat 4 (and only slightly different from iChat 3). It is understanding how many things can effect what you see.

You can block a Buddy. You Buddy can Block you. In both cases the Buddy will appear Off Line (Although iChat 5 will tell you they are Blocked if you display Off-Line Buddies).
In this case you can consider not Allowing someone as Blocking them (or the Not Allowing you).

As I said test the same iChat Info in another Mac User Account (Managed) with Parental Controls On sends flag to the AIM server to Block all those except any you allow in the Parental Controls. Not undoing the parental Controls before switching back to your regular account will leave that Flag On and your iChat will have everyone in the Block (Specific People) List.
