Parantal controls wouldn't be on but would they be on automatically? And how do I turn them off? My iChat isn't through firewall either could that be a problem it's turned off? To be blocking this person. I just want it to work just as my same account that is working I dint know how to do this I am lost. It's still not working and I'm not happy would aim account have something to do with it cause I got the system message before all this happened. Thanks everyone else is fine but them.

That relates to a completely different problem. (The Buddy not staying in the list at All - not Even Off-Line)

The quoted fix is also not the fix for that issue.

NOTE.
That issues is where the First Name, Last Name info is being added in iChat and the person exists in the Address Book already.
You cannot add someone to the Address Book twice.
iChat 3 and earlier report this properly as A Feedbag Error 10

Hi,

In AIM speak, as it were, Buddies are Food
Food is kept in a Feedbag
Your Buddies (food), in the form of the Screen Name list (feedbag), is kept at the AIM Servers.
Your Address Book is another Feedbag.

The way any AIM client (App that logs In to AIM) uses these two Feedbags is to get your Buddy List to display "Real Names" when a Buddy is marked as On-line by the AIM Servers.

The Recent Buddies sub part of the Buddy List (If active and not deleted in another app) is an AIM only Feedbag that is added to your Buddy list display.

You can Add server Screen Names of one Buddy to the Address Card via iChat
User uploaded file

Or via the Address Book itself.
Click on Contact in middle list.
Use Edit Button under the card when displayed.
Use the + Symbol to add More Screen Name to the Address card.

Unlinking (deleting) a Screen Name from the Address Book entry for one contact will make the Screen Name only appear in the Buddy List.

The above line is the only way I can see you "Changed the name" of your Buddy in relation to anything to do with Feedbags.

The instructions on the feedbag page referred to this section on Page 6 where the old iChat Versions could separate Screen Names with a comma.

Hi,

Glad to hear.

Thanks for the email that confirmed the Buddy had blocked you as per my post in this thread on the 5th May.

...
You can block a Buddy. You Buddy can Block you. In both cases the Buddy will appear Off Line (Although iChat 5 will tell you they are Blocked if you display Off-Line Buddies).
In this case you can consider not Allowing someone as Blocking them (or them Not Allowing you).
...

As that post stated it can be done by using the same iChat Account info in another Mac User Account and Enabling Parental Controls there and "Not allowing" a Screen Name which tells the AIM servers (flags the Screen Name) to be Blocked and then shows up as Blocked anywhere you use that Buddy List.

Of course it is easy to misunderstand that a second Screen Name is not a swap and delete or Block one of the names (deliberate action but accidental intent).

A more accidental action is to Highlight a Buddy then use the Block option in the Buddies menu.
It can also be done if a Right (Control) Click is used on the Buddy in the Buddy list with the Contextual Menu Pop up.

I have posted more info to highlight that there are several ways of doing things and therefore easy in some cases to perform an action you did (or they did not ) intend to do.

Happy Chatting.

Hi,

If a Buddy blocks you, then you do not get told.
In fact if you Block someone then they don't get to see that info either.

Both scenarios will produce a Buddy at your end that always appears Off Line.
From at least iChat 4 though, if you have left a Blocked Person in your List (You can Block AND Delete) you will see them in the Off Line Buddies but their Status Message reads "Blocked".

A Buddy that has set Invisible and forgotten about it, will see you as On-line but he will appear Off line to you.
Effectively it is a Partial Block to everyone, which is why I mention it.
From their end everything looks OK.
In your case with using two Buddy Lists/Screen Names at your end and seeing him On-Line in one proves it was not being set to Invisible at his end that was the issue.

As I said here and in the emails, most of what we were doing would only prove it was not your iChat.

Sometimes you get hints from a reply that it contains info that the person remembers or thinks they remember setting and has not actually checked
It's a bit like asking someone what colour the sky is.
Most often they say "Blue"
However if you ask them to go outside and look up and tell you what colour they see then the answer can vary depending on weather and time of day.
(Right now here it is night and cloudy. Many of the local street lights are Sodium based and the sky is black with an orange tint).

Anyways, glad to hear you found the answer in the end.
