iPad "misbehaves" when used with a MultiSIM - picks up/rejects phone calls

Hello Cupertino,

iPad 3G misbehaves when used e.g. with a MultiSIM card of T-Mobile Germany.

It is said to pick up phone calls and actively rejects them. Thus the "Main" Mobile Phone (e.g. the iPhone) will ring ONCE then the iPad will pick up and reject the call. (On T-Mobile Network, one cannot disallow phone calls for a specific MultiSIM, all Phones of the same number will ring simultaneously).

This is a really serious and embarassing bug, please fix it with next OS version.

Cheers,
Thomas

It really doesn't matter if "we" see it that way ... It matters whether Apple and whoever they have contracted with in your country (I assume tmobile) see it that way. If apple is planning on requiring a separator sim and data plan, then it's a matter of design on their part and not a bug. If they do intend for it to work in the way you wish and it doesn't, then it is a bug which I'm sure they'll fix. But if it's the former, that's the consequence of buying the iPad before it's been released in your country and without finding out if it would work as you hoped.

I don't think you are looking at this correctly....

Those of us in the US with iPhone contracts can't use the sim card or a duplicate for our iPads. Why should German customers be treated any differently?

I think unwanted equals unintended use.

The bottom line is........if you don't like what is being offered, don't by the product, whether that is the iPad or the sim card. apple to circumvent Verizon or any other service provider. Of course you could choose a wifi only option and avoid the "problem" all together.

You shouldn't expect

Pretty bizarre and selfish point of view, don't you think???

It would do no harm to the customers in the US to fix the problem. But because there are no similar data-plans in the US it shouldn't be done. Wow.

Wouldn't you also prefer to have just one contract using the paid data on whatever device you like?

Of course, a MiFi (UMTS->WiFi) or a Palm Pré would be an option, but it means carrying around one more device. Btw. allowing the iPad to tether to the iPad would be another...

And of course, not buying Apple products anymore may be the way to go. Hopefully this will not be necessary...

I don't think it is selfish to sell a product for a profit. I would prefer my vehicle come with a lifetime of free fuel but that isn't gonna happen either. Apple sells a product and AT&T sells a product. I choose to purchase both of them. I don't have a right to them. It isn't my birthright to have access to them. I can purchase or not. It's my choice and I love the power of that. I bought my car from the many options available and purchase fuel from the supplier of my choice. Right now I don't choose British Petroleum because I am not happy about the situation in the gulf.

So at the end of the day I have all the power!

Really good comparison!

- Car runs on petrol = iPad 3G needs a data plan.
- Contract 40 gallons a month (supplier of choice) = 1 GB of data, 200 Min of talktime.
- Fuel works in every car that runs on petrol = Use data with the iPhone or any other phone or data device.

Now the iPad in the car comparison:
- Runs on the same fuel but has a small technical modification, that prevents using the contracted fuel. Instead you have to buy additional fuel at a specific supplier, even if you haven't used up your 40 gallons.

Kinda *****...

And yes, at the end of the day the consumer has the power. Let's hope that there will be real competition in this device-class soon.
