iPad "misbehaves" when used with a MultiSIM - picks up/rejects phone calls

Hello Cupertino,

iPad 3G misbehaves when used e.g. with a MultiSIM card of T-Mobile Germany.

It is said to pick up phone calls and actively rejects them. Thus the "Main" Mobile Phone (e.g. the iPhone) will ring ONCE then the iPad will pick up and reject the call. (On T-Mobile Network, one cannot disallow phone calls for a specific MultiSIM, all Phones of the same number will ring simultaneously).

This is a really serious and embarassing bug, please fix it with next OS version.

Cheers,
Thomas

Slartibart,

Hey, I think this sounds like a great way to set up data plans - if there was something like it here in the US, I might have splurged on the 3G. However, if the data usage significantly goes up as a result of the iPad, I would expect that iPad users would have to pay more (ie additional data plans) for that data - it is far easier to use for long time data usage/web surfing than the iPhone or any of it's competitors.

OK folks, let's relax a littlebit.

@most Users from US here
Stop bashing european users about a situation you obviously do not understand.

Here are some undeniable facts:

1. The multisim / multicard situation where one contract consists of multiple simcards where each is signalling the device-capabilities when loggin into a g2 or g3-network is totaly legitimate and within the range of GPRS/UMTS specifications.

2. The device is solely responsible of signalling what it is capable to handle when loggin into a mobile-network

3. Just because a multi-sim-scenario is unusual in the US, Apple has to stick to the specifications made exactly for this scenario.

4.a The current iPad sold for the US-market is signalling capabilities as a "Phone" when loggin into a network, which is wrong even in a US-only situation.

4.b The proof of a misconfiguration is simple. Just switch the configuration on a jailbraked iPad via AT-modem-commandline. After switching to "DATA-only" the iPad behaves to specs and all problems are gone.

We'll have to wait for next Friday (iPad D-Day for 1st wave in Europe) and see if Apple will deliver the device with a changed default config. I doubt it, but we'll see.

Just because none of the US mobile provider is currently using a multisim scenario doesn't give Apple the right to make up it's own specs.

To all of you: Calm down. Bashing each other like it is happening here won't give anyone a solution, but just a heated debate for nothing.

Stick to the facts and Apple will recognise it as a "bug" and will come up with a solution.

T-Mobile Germany just told me that it is technically not possible for them to set single cards to data only. ;-( So the only possibility to fix this is Apple changing the iPads behaviour...

Just for US readers to understand : That's nonsense!

Looks like one company is pointing at the other: "it wasn't me..."

Other german providers are capable of handling this.

Example: O2 Germany offers multicard where one can explicitly set the type and order of the cards used in a multisim-scenario simply by clicking as-you-like in the O2-online-customer-area. But hey, that must be "black magic" because if t-mobile says "it is technically impossible"...

So customers of Apple AND t-mobile are left alone in the dark because both companies play a game of "no, that's not my fault..."

Very frustating...

No black magic involved. And maybe no nonsense either.

T-Mobile MultiSIM works different to O2 MultiCard. On T-Mobile *all devices ring simulataneously*, on O2 afaik this configuration is not possible. Here only *one device rings at a time*, the devices with lower priority only ring if the devices with higher priority are switched off...

Frustrating indeed...
