Can't copy large video files FROM iPhone to PC

I've searched high and low for a solution to this one. Every google hit on this search finds no resolution. Does the Apple community know how to get around this problem?

I used my 32GB iPhone 3Gs to shoot a video which turned out to be 48 minutes long, and approximately 1.2GB in file size. It plays OK on the iPhone itself.

However, when attempting to transfer or copy the large video file from the iPhone to PC, it FAILS. The photos and small-under-7gb-videos copy to PC just fine. The PC shows it's copying the file for a few minutes, however when done, the file copied to PC won't open, and shows a file size of zero. In some attempts, an error 80004005 shows.

Seriously, why use the iPhone to shoot a long video, if it can't be transferred to your PC? Any help on this matter is much appreciated.

I'm a PC, Windows XP

I have an iphone 5, but I am using windows 10. The issue does appear to be any video much longer than 41 minutes (yikes). I consider this a serious UX fail. Anyway, in windows 10, do the same backup, but the BACKUP PATH is slightly different:

C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup

The files are encoded and without extensions, i.e.:

[BACKUP PATH]\0ce8a47b967a22788d641039303ff3f07f169778\67\67cd8850500c7d4a2649776e4272e 1d1a803f6f9

So, at the backup path location, do a search on everything (use '*') and sort by SIZE DESCENDING. Then go to the bottom of the window, and you will be looking for a file 4.5 GB or bigger. Copy (don't move) those to someplace safe, and rename them with .MOV (you should also call them something nicer than 67cd8850500c7d4a2649776e4272e1d1a803f6f9.MOV).

Anyway, then you can browse through them much quicker and find that video I was so desperate to get up on YouTube! I mean, you were so desperate to ... anywho.

Thanks!

thanks, this is an old thread but worked great for me.

just fyi for other readers, I did not have a second icon for my iphone so no go on that option. Picassa did not work for me either and it is my main photo storage and import program. Neither did another forums suggestion to change usb ports. I got camera wizard to download to 100% but then error came up cannot save file.

finding the file in the apple computer folder was key.

Many thanks bkim028

This worked for me, bringing to end hours of frustration caused by the inability to transfer a 0.9 GB MOV file from iPhone5 to a Windows XP computer. (A 0.6+ GB file from the same batch transferred normally using Windows Explorer.)

I had to add the .mov suffix, and the file did NOT seem to play on Quick Time Player in any sensible timeframe, but played instantly on the excellent Free File Viewer (2012 version) and on Pinnacle Studio 15.

This solution needs to be widely publicised and available through help menus, and Microsoft (presumably) needs fix the problem - even the (frankly horrible program) iTunes seems to have no trouble transferring the file to the PC during the Sync backup step, so it's hard to understand why Windows Explorer would have this limitation.

Your solution is saving many people lots of time and frustration - well done.

1.6gb video on iPhone 4s -- tried EVERYTHING on my (old) 32-bit WinXP Pro desktop machine, and nothing worked. Then plugged phone into my 64-bit Win7 laptop, waited a couple of minutes for Windows Update to search for and find the Apple driver for the phone, then used the AutoPlay popup to download "all photos and videos" to the laptop. Worked like a charm! Obviously an address space compatibility issue.

You could try a Windows undelete utility on the iphone drive in Explorer. Cut would have deleted the file after the copy that it thought was complete.

If the file hasn't been overwritten, it may still be on the phone. I did this with a bunch of photos on my iPhone once. The are marked for delete like any other file, and are not gone until you actually overwrite them. Do NOT take any photos or recordings before you try this.

i shot video with my gopro hero 3+ camera and used the gopro app to move the large video files onto my ipad air (which is an awesome feature) so i could free up space on the camera for more video . i then had this problem becuase, later, the large video files would not transfer from my ipad to my windows XP computer. i tried itools and it worked great!
