My Ipad is dead.

Completely black, no power, no charge, computer doesn't recognize it. Had it on the charger overnight and still nothing. Been snug in it's case since I've had it, never dropped or exposed to liquids other than cleaning. Tried the holding the home button and power button trick, nothing.

Bought at Best Buy. Any ideas?

holding up the home and on buttonworked for me too. I got scared ****-less when i was trying to turn it on and nothing happens, good thing I read about this threaD! But what causes it to go dead that way? I was trying to insert a x-mini speaker when mine died, i was able to resurect it after i read on this thread! How can we avoid it? Thanks guys!

Same solution, Home and power buttons for a long time. Did not work the first 2 times, then suddenly it came back to life, so don't dive up if it does not work the first time. And the apple on the screen was not to be seen until I let go of the buttons.
Thanks guys for this post and solution, I almost freaked out when the PAD was dead!

Apple will cover it with your limited one year warranty if it's not up. Honestly you should grab the apple care for 100 bucks as well. They were really great with me. My ipad had 7 dead pixels and they helped me out greatly and sent a new one. Only to discover that the new one also had dead pixels. I am getting one more sent to me tomorrow and hopefully it will be all good. Also the first ipad i bought was at best buy and i was really unhappy with how it had 7 dead pixels and also had blemishes as if the product was returned and just repackaged. Same with my macbook pro that i bought. Had blemishes. Apple sent me a new flawless Ipad as far as cosmetics go. I don't advise going to best buy to get apple products. Both my macbook pro had dings & my Ipad from best buy & they didn't want to work with me at all to exchange it. They actually wanted to charge me a 15% restocking fee. I had to put up a fight with them.

Installed 4.2 and was messing about with multitasking then dead iPad. Tried all the usual things with no joy. Read the 10 sec post and thought I've held both down for several seconds but it doesn't hurt to try again this time timed for 10 seconds. When the 10 seconds where up the small iota of hope I had faded as screen remained black. Then I let go of the buttons and up pops the apple logo, cue happy dance!

This happened to my 16GB wifi/3G iPad a few hours after updating the software. Started getting mini-crashes throughout the day - tap on a newspaper article, boom, open a photo, etc. And then Mail, the moment I sent an email, would freeze, except for the act of sending; as soon as the email was sent, it would then "unfreeze" but react slowly to any touches.

After the iPad "blacked out" this eve, I found this forum (thank you). But what no one has mentioned is that if the Home and Wake button thing works, which it did for me, you have to restore the iPad... Seems OK so far, but I think I want a replacement. Worth doing?

My Ipad is dead.
