Apache not executing PHP

I put my blog in the user/sites/blog folder which has an index.php file to start the blog but when call the URL in Firefox I get a blank page and in Safari I get the following message:
Safari can’t open the page.
Safari can’t open the page “ http://192.168.0.5/~user/blog/” because the server unexpectedly dropped the connection. This sometimes occurs when the server is busy. Wait for a few minutes, and then try again.

The httpd.conf file has the

LoadModule php5_module modules/php5.3/libphp5.so

uncommented.

Any idea why the php script does not execute

MacBookpro 17", Mac OS X (10.6.2)

MAMP? You didn't mention that either.

Time for you to punt. The Apache and PHP that comes installed on your Mac work just fine. Restore from your backup.

Ok. I manage to get Apache to work again. Now it reads HTML http://192.168.0.4/~kskhater and it says "It works" at http://192.168.0.4/

But it won't execute php although I commented the line:
LoadModule php5_module libexec/apache2/libphp5.so

in /private/etc/apache2

Any idea why. Thanks

Are you sure that's the copy of apache you're running?

If you've installed other Apache distributions then it's possible it's using a different copy, and a different configuration file.

I'm sure no other Apache is running because I remove them. Not when I go to a site that has an index.php I get a directory listing.

Perhaps you've made it back to step 1, perhaps not, it's hard to tell. Do you have PHP working at all? Does it work with info.php? If not, disregard everything that follows.

If you want to add a PHP index, first make sure that PHP is working and then add "index.php" to your DirectoryIndex directive.

Are you specifically requesting a .php page in the request? or just the directory?

If you just ask for a directory then Apache will search for a filename listed in the DirectoryIndex directly - typically index.html. If that file doesn't exist then it may serve a directory listing (depending on the config).

If you want it to serve index.php as a default page you need to add 'index.php' to the DirectoryIndex directive in your configuration.

I added DirectoryIndex index.php to httpd.conf and it worked.
