I have the exact same problem ! my drive tries to read the CD three times and the spits it out again... I tried with serveral different CDs, but it's always the same. I did not try a cleaning disc though. DVD works just fine. argh I hate this !!!!!!!!!!
I have the same problem. I tried store-bought music CDs as well as burned music CDs and both just spinned several times and were spit out. DVDs are working. Last time I inserted a CD-R to burn data it worked fine (a few months ago). Any clues to what is going on?? Thanks.
Having the same problem with my Macbook Pro 17" (late 2008). Will not accept any type of CD media, but will accept DVDs and plays DVD movies fine.
Store-bought music CDs, CD-Rs & RWs I burned myself from iTunes, data CDs -- all simply eject shortly after insertion. I have tried using a laser lens cleaner (SkipDr, with cleaning brushes on the disc) but no luck.
I see I'm not alone here, and that we all started having this problem at roughly the same time... Anyone have a clue what's up with this? Hoping for an OS patch or firmware fix, rather than a "buy a new drive" fix, natch!
I'm having the same problem with the MacBook Pro that I bought a couple of years ago. It reads and writes DVDS, but immediately spits out any kind of CD. 😟
I have a MacBook Pro, not even a year old, Bought it last September and I have this same problem. My OS is updated to 10.6.2 If no solution is posted I will call and see what they can do for me as its still under the one year warrenty.
Exact same issue, Computer does read, just spits out any music CD. I would like to import some new music into my itunes!!!
Hi, Cimmeron Eve, could you do me and all of us a huge favor and post here if you get any useful information about this problem from Apple? No one on this forum seems to know anything about it or how to fix it 😟
I, too have this problem on my MacBook Pro - seems too common to be just coincidence! Have tried the usual drive clean recommendations, plus PMU/SMC resets, but no change. No sure exactly when this started, as I don't often use audio CDs on this machine.
Drive is Matshita DVD-R UJ-875. Is it possible these drives are just failing early??
CDs themselves seem OK, and work fine on my iMac. Hope we can get a solution to this, otherwise is drive replacement the only other solution??
naaaaa this problem is too common to just resign and change the drive... this can't be a coincidence! Could it be that the latest snow leopard update causes this problem????!!!!
