Can't add artwork to new movies

Until last weekend, I could add artwork and pictures to movie files I was importing to iTunes. Now I can't. I add the artwork in the usual way, and it immediately reverts to showing the thumbnail of the video, and when I check for artwork under 'Get File Info', there's none there.

Sometimes, this can be rectified by playing the movie in iTunes (or at least skipping to the last 10 seconds, then letting it play out), and sometimes not. I haven't changed the configuration of my computer in the last two weeks.

I'm using a Macbook, OSX 10.5.8 and iTunes 9.1.1.

I can't be the only one having this problem.....

You nailed it! MovieIcon is the app to use.

But you don't have to re-import the movies. After adding the artwork, it doesn't show up in iTunes. But when you go to 'Get Info' from that particular movie, just add some extra info on one of the tabs, e.g. in Details or Description and hit 'OK'. The new info will be saved and, just like magic, the artwork also appears!

This even works on movies that you already have stored on a NAS.

Still no luck. I've tried re-installing, dragging and dropping the artwork.... it just don't wanna work.

This is bugging me. Not because I need artwork, but because I know there's a fault and I don't know how to fix it....

Don't know if you are still having the issue but I just had the same problem and I fixed it by letting the movie run out then when I added the artwork, instead of dragging it, I clicked 'add' and picked the file from my hard drive. It seems to have fixed the bug. (don't know if letting the movie run out is required but it couldn't hurt). Hope that helps!

None of these options are working for me. I'm using the latest iTunes (10.2.2.12) under Windows 7. I used to be able to add artwork but it recently stopped working.

One interesting thing is that the file itself does not get modified (still has yesterday's date on it). I am still able to add art to music however. The movie artwork may be stored in a separate database that has possibly reached its limit? If so this is quite sad-- I only have a few dozen movies in the library.

Some video file formats don't take embedded artwork, and iTunes won't attempt to update a file if it can't get write access to it. Read-only flags, security permissions or even Explorer trying to create a preview image might prevent access.

The artwork cache is divided into two sections, one for art downloaded directly from the iTunes store and not embedded in tags, the other holds a cached copy of anything embedded. Neither has any practical limit other than the capacity of the drive.

It might be worth downloading the latest build (10.2.2.14) directly from http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ as the software update tools won't find it. It might not make a difference, but it can't hurt to try.

The operation might time out, or you may just need to be very patient with it. I'd also make sure you have a backup before you attempt to add artwork just in case something goes wrong when iTunes tries to manuipulate the large files. It may have to rebuild the entire file in order to generate the room to store the extra tag information at the start of the file.
