I just got hit as well - $400, and no apple, i didnt get a phishing email, you got hacked. I tried contacting apple by phone but Itunes does not have a customer service department, i was told i had to do all my corresdence by email. They were nice enough to offer me an extended warranty on my ipod (im being serious about that). I sent and email in to which they responded, its your problem, go cancle your credit card and reset your password. I had already cancled the CC, but when i reset my password for itunes and attempted to start just using gift cards, i found they had disabled my account. That was 2 days and 4 emails ago on the (useless)"help" itunes page. I am honestly shocked by their complete lack of admitting they have a seriious problem, helping customers and actually doing something about it. I completely believe it stems from the inability of Apple to grasp that they have perhaps failed at something - as impossibly as it sounds. There is one word that describes that: HUBERIS!

i just discovered there were three purchases made on my itunes account, mostly all albums ("playlists") and music videos. i've reported it to my bank, cancelled my card, changed my itunes password, emailed apple and "report problem"ed all the mysterious purchases. i raaaarely buy even a .99 cent song on itunes and by my purchase history there's no reason to justicy this spending anomaly. hopefully i'll get some assistance... will report back.

My account was hacked today for around $200 of downloads. My cc company called me about the activity and I checked my Itunes account and sure enough it was hacked.
I don't understand as I am very careful about my passwords and only use my home computer for itunes. Apple refused to help me on the phone and said they don't offer itunes support via phone. I can only email support and hope for a helpful response. I'm done using itunes and apple products. When this happens people should be able to talk to a live person for support.

On Sunday, June 27, 2010 my iTunes account was hacked. The reason I know this was 7 email receipts I received and each receipts had multiple purchases on them for a total of more than $240.00. I immediately got hold of iTunes and their response was to remove my credit card information and change my password and then get hold of my credit card company and disput the charges. I did all of the above immediately but then I thought why does iTunes not take any responsibility for this situation. They leave the responsibility up to me and my credit card company and the latter shares absolutely no responsibility because my credit card was not hacked, it was my iTunes account that was hacked.

Why is iTunes not protecting their customers from being hacked? As I look through this discussion group and this topic, it appears that this is a fairly common problem. This is not right and something needs to be corrected by iTunes and they need to take responsibility for this problem. I for one will not ever have an iTunes account again until they correct this problem.

While I haven't had my account hacked, I saw this thread and immediately removed my cc information. I'm curious to know if those who have had their accounts hacked, do they leave themselves signed in to the iTunes store? If they don't, that's a scary thought .. .someone hacking into accounts who aren't signed in.

From now on, I'm only using gift cards to pay for things and making sure I sign out of the store before I close iTunes.

To those of you who have been ripped off, I hope you get your money back. These are hard times and everyone is not only struggling to make ends meet but to have that little bit extra spending $$ for the pleasures in life. When someone steals from you, it's a slap in the face, no matter what the amount.

How did you contact Itunes support? I have tried by phone but they refuse to talk about it to me and refer me to and email support address. I can't get a response from the email either. This is getting really frustrating. On top of the $200 in fraudulent charges there is a pending fraudulent charge that my CC declined and I can't use itunes until its paid. If apple won't erase the charge I never access my Itunes again.

To answer the above question about leaving itunes signed. No I never leave Itunes signed in and it still got hacked.

How can I get Apple to disable my account? The hackers have not only accessed it and made fraudulent charges, but they have changed my personal info, email address, and password too, so I cannot access the account myself. I cannot remove my credit card info, nor can I reset the password. At this point I just want the account disabled. Any thoughts on how to accomplish that?

What is the email address for iTunes support? I cannot seem to find it in the FAQ.

Hi Everyone!

Since I posted my issue on the first page, my problems has been "resolved" (for lack of a better term). I did get all of my money back. Paypal is who reimbursed me for the fraudulent charges. My iTunes account was connected to Paypal which was tied to my bank account. I "reported" the problem to all three. However, I called Apple twice for the iTunes Store Support and they did take care of me both times via telephone. I called this telephone number (800) APL-CARE (800-275-2273) and I "very sweetly" explained my dilema and they were more than happy to assist me with the "reporting and reactivating" of my account both times. No they didnt offer me any recourse and told me to contact Paypal, I did get to speak to a real person and they did help me (as much as they were ever going to) on both occasions. I hope this helps some of you with resolutions. Give that number a try and Good Luck. BTW, I'm ONLY using gift cards for iTunes now.

Add me to the list of those who've been hacked ...

Got an Apple receipt today for several apps which I never and would never purchase.
Immediately changed my password and removed my credit card information.
Called my bank and cancelled my card. Called their fraud department to report the incident.

That was the easy part...

The hard part is contacting Apple about this. Found the e-mail link and sent off a message, but no reply yet. Then went in to iTunes and clicked on 'Report a Problem" next to each item purchased, sending off a message saying I hadn't made the purchase, my account had been hacked, and I wanted a refund. Then got back several "computer-generated" messages from Apple apologising that I "hadn't been able to download my purchases" (???) and giving links to instructions how to do so. In other words, nobody had bothered to read what I had told them i.e. my account had been hacked.

As others have noted, it's impossible to get support for the iTunes Store on the phone with a real live human being. So, I'm at the mercy of their e-mail system and NOT impressed so far.

After years of no problems, this spooks me somewhat, and I don't think I'll be purchasing from the iTunes Store any more, it's just too unsafe. This being the case, I think I'll also be putting off any plans to upgrade my current 1st gen iPod Touch, I was thinking of a new one or an iPad but, if the iTunes Store ecosystem is so dodgy, such hardware upgrades would be pointless for me without content from the iTunes Store.

You can add me to the list too. I ALWAYS log out of iTunes when I use it. None of the information is stored on my computer. So far, they've racked up $140+ dollars in downloads of what looks to be some sort of games. I've NEVER purchased games via iTunes. In fact, the last time I used my account was in May. To buy music.

Apple has been less than stellar in helping us resolve this. Sounds like they don't do much to help anyone in this situation. They need a fraud line that you can call when this happens. It is absolutely ridiculous to ask people to EMAIL when their money has been stolen.

Apple is supposed to be so great, right? Ha. Great at ignoring a major problem. Maybe I need to contact my local newspapers, news stations, post this on Facebook, Twitter, etc... I am SO not impressed, Apple. I'm your target demographic, and you're going to lose my business, my family's business, my friends, and everyone else I can tell about your shoddy business practices.

I was hacked too. $140 in purchases. I removed my credit card info but see the hackers still managed to download some free apps tonight. I just changed my user name and password too. I was on Apple chat support for 20 minutes and they could not tell me how to change my password in Itunes. Pretty incredible. AMEX says they will reverse the charges but I have yet to see any credits come through. Really ****** about this. I bought an iPad about a month ago...arrived yesterday...I'm wondering if my account was hacked during that purchase.

In the U.S. the Droid Incredible is out and the Droid X comes out in 13 days. One of these devices will be replacing my iPhone for both phone and music soon. I have already started the long process of getting unteathered from Apples grip after my iTunes account hacking and their crappy attitude/response. I have been spreading the word too.

Oh and with the new iphone 4G antennae problems now and Apples attitude of "just hold the phone a different way when talking" is another poor corporate example from them.

I can't free myself of Apple soon enough. My account being hacked and Apples response attitude was just the spark needed for me to bail on them.

Good luck everyone.
