I got my 3GS on day 1, and it says I am eligable for the new iPhone.

So I just bought my first iphone two weeks ago...a 3gs - 16gb. The saleswoman told me that I would get the same features as the new phone with a free software update. I believed her. I'm not so sure now. I don't understand all of the bells and whistles, but looking now at the OS4 phone, it doesn't sound that clearcut. I was told I had a month to back out of the original contract. Should I do that and trade it in for the new phone or do you think I should just get the download and stick with what I've got?

Bring it back and get the new iPhone. Nowhere near the same hardware.
In short -
iphone 4 will have longer battery life, faster processor, much cleaner and clearer display, much better camera,a and with the gyroscope much smoother game play.

No Verizon support? Darn looks like I have to wait for iPhone 5 to be released. I love Apple but AT&T will never get another penny from me. Oh well Apple's loss.

I did the check and got back the message that with new 2 year commitment, an 18 dollar upgrade fee I could do the upgrade. I assume that is obviously plus the cost of the the iPhone.

As excited as I am about this, FaceTime is a poor show when I was hoping for a native iChat app, especially one that could video chat Macs 😟

As always, I'm left wanting a little more.. but I still cant wait!

lol - yeah, thats my issue too. She knows I have gotten the iPhone on day 1 for the last 3 years, so I told her a while ago that this one wont be any different, but she really wasnt to thrilled about it. Im eligible as far as ATT and apple goes but as far as the better half? well.....

Does anyone know how the pre-order works? I have the 3G model and need to upgrade to the new model. If i pre-order the iPhone 4 on the Apple online store, how does AT&T activate my phone so it works on my current plan?

I don't think you need to wait to get the "bugs" out. Apple is pretty good about their software updates. From my experience, I haven't had any iPhone hardware issues, and any software glitches were resolved. So I personally don't think that should sway your decision.

On another note, anyone know if they will sell this at Best Buy? I've been sitting on gift certificates for months! I want an iPad, but they never have them in stock!

I'm guessing the activiation will be through iTunes, so no need to go into an AT&T store to get it done if you pre-order.
