Wi-Fi Connected, but no internet access

Able to see/authenticate and connect to network at work which is using WPA-PSK. iPad shows connected/steady connection and has been assigned IP address. However, unable to connect to Internet, acts like not actually connected to internet. Tried my iPhone and it exhibits the same issue.

Saw a few like issues posted here, but indicated fixes did not work, i.e., reboot router and iPad.

Thanks

I FOUND A SOLUTION!

Okay so just to describe my issue which was the same as what JF87 described; it was connected to the wifi and yet on safari to load facebook.com for example it would say it's not connected to the internet

BUT the really strange thing was that it would load google.com and apple.com but most other sites not. and the app store didn't work either. So clearly it was connected to the internet but there was something software related messing it up?

THEN it dawned upon me that my date&time settings were set to manual and the date was set for 3 years ago (from when I was trying to debug a seperate issue) and I'd left it like that.

I returned the date&time settings to normal and now it's working!

Maybe this will work for you, maybe not but I haven't seen it mentioned so I thought it would be good to post it

Dear all,

I've already posted this in a separate thread (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3733104?tstart=0), but because I've had no replies and I'm so desperate I'm posting it again here (sorry if you've already read this).

Since about 2 weeks ago for no apparent reason, the internet on my iPad suddenly stopped working (when I open Safari, it says: "Safari cannot open the page because it is not connected to the Internet"), even though the Wifi icon in the top left corner still shows full signal. However, I noticed when I went into Wifi settings (Settings>Wifi) that there is no checkmark next to my network name (only the spinning circle icon, as if it's trying to process something). This only happens at home (I can browse the internet while connected to Wifi at university). My other Apple devices (MacBook Pro and iPhone 4S) work perfectly fine at home.

I've tried resetting my router, restarting my iPad, resetting Network Settings on my iPad, and tried following Hynes' instructions on this thread, but nothing has worked so far (although I have to admit that I found the instructions somewhat confusing, so there is a chance that I accidentally did not follow them properly).

Could someone please help? It'd be VERY much appreciated.

Thanks,

JF87

For Win 7 Users,

1. Plug iPhone into the computer

2. Wait or Open iTunes

3. Turn on your personal hotspot

4. Press USB only

5. Check your Open Network and Sharing Center to see it says "No Internet Access"

6. Open Safari in your iPhone and enter some random website and load

7. Check your Open Network and Sharing Center and it will say "Internet" next to the Access

For me, this is what solved my problem (I already posted this a few months ago here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3733104?tstart=0):

"So it turns out my boyfriend changed the Multiplexing Method of our router from VC-Based to LLC-Based in order to be able to play multiplayer Call of Duty online on the PlayStation 3; switching it back to VC-Based solved my iPad problem."

Can you provide the method to do this - increase number of connections in the router? I do not see the options to increase number of connections in my "netgear' router.

Hi,

I have the problem with my ipad 1 and iphone 3GS - connects to wifi/router but does not access internet. Also, this is a recent issue: it first happened with my iphone and then with my ipad. The problem is really a month old - everything was working fine. One day iphone stopped working (ipad was working just fine) and then ipad stopped working.

The wifi works fine on my computers (Windows 7) and blackberry - so data exchange, email, VPN all work. So this problem fumbles me. I did not change any setting on the router between the time it was working and now. I have tried everything - from resetting modem, router, ipad (upgraded to 5.1.1 today) - but solution is evasive.

I have a netgear wireless router. It is WEP protected. The ip address to ipad and iphone is 192... I have tried to remove WEP protection, but still not help.

Pls help with advise.

i am also having trouble with my wifi connection (ipod 4g). it has been three or five days since the last time i connected my ipod with wifi. it always says: "Safari cannot open the page because it is not connected to the Internet"), even though the Wifi icon in the top left corner still shows full signal. However, I noticed when I went into Wifi settings (Settings>Wifi) that there is no checkmark next to my network name (only the spinning circle icon, as if it's trying to process something). this happens to ALL wifi networks available. TRIED ALL THE SOLUTIONS SUCH AS RESETTING, RESTORING, AND FORGETTING THE NETWORK. 😟 WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO BRING BACK THE USE OF MY WIFI ON MY IPOD? PLEASE? TY

My software firewall was blocking the connection. My company installs a software firewall security package and it was denying the connections from my iPhone. I had to permit the ip address that the hotspot network was trying to use and everything started working.

You can check for udp connections being blocked from svchost and see which ip needs to be permitted. I added it to my allowed ips and everything started working.

Hope that helps.

None of the solutions worked for me and I had given up until I tried something on my own and IT WORKED 🙂
Ok here is what I did -

1. Reset My router, changed my wifi name and password. (Don't forget to RENAME it)

2. Turned on wifi on 4S.

3. I had to enter all the settings in "STATIC" (IP address, subnet mask, router, DNS)

4. VOILA, it starts working again.

Strange bug but this has fixed it for the moment.

Hope it works for you all as well. cheers!!
