Wi-Fi Connected, but no internet access

Able to see/authenticate and connect to network at work which is using WPA-PSK. iPad shows connected/steady connection and has been assigned IP address. However, unable to connect to Internet, acts like not actually connected to internet. Tried my iPhone and it exhibits the same issue.

Saw a few like issues posted here, but indicated fixes did not work, i.e., reboot router and iPad.

Thanks

Kris

I FOUND A SOLUTION!

Okay so just to describe my issue which was the same as what JF87 described; it was connected to the wifi and yet on safari to load facebook.com for example it would say it's not connected to the internet

BUT the really strange thing was that it would load google.com and apple.com but most other sites not. and the app store didn't work either. So clearly it was connected to the internet but there was something software related messing it up?

THEN it dawned upon me that my date&time settings were set to manual and the date was set for 3 years ago (from when I was trying to debug a seperate issue) and I'd left it like that.

I returned the date&time settings to normal and now it's working!

Maybe this will work for you, maybe not but I haven't seen it mentioned so I thought it would be good to post it

I had the same problem but my boyfriend just solved it.

Basically, he just reassigned the ip address for the device.

Go to the wifi setting for the network you're connected to. Change to Static and manually input the addresses. If you have a PC connected to the network, go to run>cmd>ipconfig to get the addresses.

These are the same addresses you automatically get under DHCP setting and you should keep the numbers all the same except the IP Address. It should be 192.168.1.x change the x to any number that's not assigned to any other device in your network (just choose a high number).

Before:

IP Address: 192.168.1.7

Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Router Address: 192.168.1.1

DNS: 192.168.1.1

After:

IP Adress: 192.168.1.8

Everything else the same.

There could be other causes to this problem but I hope this helps some of you.

AnatS ... your solution worked for me, too.

Out of the blue today, my iPad just stopped connecting to our Wifi. It had something similar to 10.1.10.2 (not exact) in the IP Address, Router and DNS fields. The Search Domains field had also been wiped clean.

I'm not sure what caused this, but after I entered everything in under the Static settings (used what I saw on my iPhone), all of the DHCP settings returned to normal, and it seems to be working fine now.

The only thing that I did this morning that could have affected the iPad was to run some software updates for several apps -- nothing to do w/ iOS, on the surface, but something apparently screwed it up anyway.

ADDENDUM: I was playing around w/ it, and when I switched back to DHCP, all of the settings were changed -- which I should have expected, duh. Don't be like me. Just leave it on Static.

Thanks, AnatS!

I had a similar issue on my macbook pro running 10.8.4

The way I resolved it after a few hours of trying everything else I read on this forum is I opened Terminal and typed in both these commands: This reset my DNS settings

sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist

sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist

I had this problem on my brand new iPad air. What turned out to be the cause of the problem for me was that the router had Wifi Protected Setup enabled. Turning that off fixed the problem.

Wifi Protected Setup is supposed to work with devices that support connecting with a pin number set by the router. In my experience this has been the cause of two iPads not being able to connect to the internet through the router.

Hope this helps.
