Using Pacifist per previous notes, I was able to quickly restore Safari 4.0.5. Thanks!

My site has observed "The application Safari quit unexpectedly" for network-home users, standalone users, and admin and root users of Safari 5.0. One standalone user had Safari 5.0 work correctly. One of our staff says the latest http://nightly.webkit.org offers Safari 5.0 functionality without this fatal bug.

In hope that Apple will issue an update soon, we will ask our few Safari enthusiasts to either use Firefox or let IT apply the 4.0.5 downgrade via Pacifist.

My problem with this solution is that I am still using Tiger (10.1) and yes, I realize now that I should not have installed Safari 5. But I have dragged the application to the trash and downloaded an install version of
Safari 4 but I can not install it as it says I have a newer version installed. Any help you can give me would be great.

I just wanted to chime in on this. I installed 5 and got nothing but crashes -- no start up screen etc. Used AppZapper to take out Safari 5 and instal Safari 4.05 from the Apple website. Wouldn't work, my computer continued to say there was a newer version on my drive. So, with AppZapper's work still done I went to TimeMachine back to about April of this year and reinstalled Safari 3 something and it is working fine.

Hi

using the `Pacifist method outlined above should allow you to 'force' the install.

From what I can see, you may now have some 'extra' files, that Safari 4 doesn't use, but these will likely just sit there, harmlessly. The important ones, will hopefullybe replaced by the correct Safari 4 versions.

I'd strongly suggest backing up your vital data though, just in case things go bad.
