has anyone encountered this behavior before and figured out a solution for it?

OK, the sync problem is back today.
I'm fed up with all this and switching to Outllook 2011. Buy the way I have read that this issue only affects Mail 5.0 and Exchange 2007.
And Apple doesn't seem to care that much...

Where did you read this?
Guys. I've been working on this issue for what seems like a year.
We found it with hosted exchange clients (direct from Microsoft) and mail.app clients.
the problem occured on
Snow Leopard and Lion.
It occured on new macs.
it occured on small mailboxes, and large ones.
sometimes it happened every day, sometimes it happened 3 times a week.
Microsoft won't own it because, we'll, the mail arrives into the mailbox on time, so the issue is related to mail.app.
I've tried getting this resolved via so many avenues but only found 3 possible outcomes.
1. swap to imap (*****)
2. swap to Outlook 2011 (***** when you try and convince Mac users who love Apple mail)
3. restart outlook every 20 minutes (really *****)
But, some guy at Microsoft also mentioned deleting this V2 folder thing, so I'm pretty excited about it and am going to give it a go and report back. I'm really hoping, it fixes it. It's super frustrating.
I agree with your mail. Beware, the "V2 folder thing" won't work for long, forget about it.
However there is a fourth solution :
4. Convince your information system manager to upgrade the server to Exchange 2010 (as this issue seems to be limited to Exchnage 2007)
5. And even a fifth one : convince your ISM to swap to Gmail corporate !
For now I use Outlook 2011, even if it *****.
Hey Fabien, I'm not sure the version of exchange matters either. Microsoft's hosted exchange platform, which houses about 60,000 companies in Australia alone I'm pretty sure used to run on Exchange 2007 with BPOS and moved to Exchange 2010 with Office 365, and the problem is reflected on both platforms. This whole thing is so frustrating.
Also, man. Gmail corporate. What a nightmare. we've got clients that use Google Apps and want nothing to do with it. It works great if the clients just go to gmail.com for their mail, but no one wants to do that. Everyone wants outlook or apple mail, and
1. there is no sync tool for Outlook on Mac. so the folders via IMAP are a total disaster.
2. the folders on Apple mail are the same. it gives you multiple folders, all because Google apps don't use Folders, they use labels, which creates all kinds of havoc.
We have the same problem on Exchange 2010 SP2 RU4, so it's not just a 2007 problem for sure.
I think it even still exists on Mountain Lion. I'll know for sure in about 2 hours.
Hey Kerry. I don't think Mountain Lion helps. We have people on it - same issue.
I also tried raising it with MIcrosoft again today. No luck. Microsoft simply go back to the fact its a problem with the Apple Mail client and the issue needs to be raised with Apple.
😟

1, There is a very effective sync for Outlook if you are using a Google Apps account.
2, Have no idea what you are talking about, folders are labels, Google just describe them more accurately.
Hey Csound1.
Theres a sync tool for Outlook and Windows, but not Outlook and Mac. That's what I meant. 🙂
Unless that's changed? That would be awesome 🙂
Ah yes, Outlook for Mac, the orphan child 🙂 No, there is no tool for the Mac version of Outlook, apologies.
discussions.apple.com man 🙂
not windows.com
Brad,
I looked at your site and I think we might be in the same boat as far as what we do. Would you be interested in chatting about this either on the phone or via email? I just made my email address visible in my profile if you would be.
Just want to compare notes.

Here's the sync tool for Outlook for Mac and iCloud: wrong link, watch this space....
OK, can't find it now, search this site a solution has been suggested by a few people, involving a 3rd party sync system who's name entirely escapes me now.
Hi Brad, Installing Mountain Lion solved the problem for me, although I had to delete and re-create all my Exchange accounts.
