iPad Safari crashing regularly

Safari on my iPad is crashing fairly frequently; sometimes when I restart it retains the pages that were previously open, and sometimes not.

Have not yet established a pattern, but it seems prevalent on very large pages (for example pages with many images) and on pages with embedded video (particularly Flash).

Anyone else experiencing the same issue and/or have any further information? Anybody using a browser other than Safari on the iPad?

And it's getting even worst, inline videos sometimes are buggy. I get the sound, but no video and pinching to fo full screen just zooms the web page, like if there was no video object. It's starting to get really annoying, almost feels like i own an android tablet.

Apple, please! At least communicate and tell us this is getting worked on.

The thing is, i wonder if new ipads shipping with ios5 are affected by the problem, in which case a bug in the 4 to 5 update process could be responsible. Maybe i'll try resetting and doing a fresh install.

I have an iPhone 4S, which came with the iOS 5 and it works perfectly. I believe the crashes (and other issues) are solely due to the update to iOS 5 on the older devices. Pretty aggravating as I never had these issue (of the constant crashing) with Safari with the old iOS. And it's NOT crashing just on sites with a heavy pictures presence. It also appears to be getting worse with each passing day.

All we can hope for is that they are aware and are working to resolve the issue for us.

Same problem here.

After upgrading to IOS 5 on my ipad1 safari keeps crashing the instant I open it up to the point that I can't use it at all anymore. After tapping on the safari icon it tries to open but instantly closes and returns to the ipad-homescreen.

Restarting etc. etc. won't help.

Sadly enough I had to buy atomic browser to be able to surf the web on my ipad😟.

To apple: are you just ignoring this issue or are you going to fix this?

Thanks, for the suggestion. Unfortunately, I had turn off all iCloud options immediately after installing iOS 5, so that wasn't the source of my problem with the crashes.

I also wanted to add that I haven't downloaded any new apps since iOS 5 was installed. Everything begins and end with that installation.

All I know is I had no crashes prior to iOS 5...and after installing it, Safari is unstable. Where I could have 9 pages open with the old systen, now beecause of the crashes with the new system, I'm only keeping 2 open at most, in an attempt to ease the strain on what appears to be a fragile operating system. All in all...not real impressed with this new and "improved" operating system.

Safari crashing constantly here too. On iPad 1 ios5. Often if I reload the page it's ok, sometimes not. Sometimes it remembers where I was when it crashed other times it opens the page I was on previously. It happens even if I only have 1 safari tab open. I cleared out all history etc in settings and tried multiple restarts but no help. Apple please look at this as it seriously decreases the enjoyment of the iPad. I mainly use it for web surfing and now it's just annoying.

Apple does not monitor these forums.

There are lots and lots of ideas in this thread. First, while plugged into itunes, you right-click the ipad and say "transfer purchases" and do a sync. Given that icloud backs up your apps, plug it into iTunes and do a restore afterwards setting it up as a new ipad. Then, you can put your apps back on there using icloud. Let us know if the problem persists.

If you wish, you can click on page 1 in this thread, and go through all the suggestions, which include emptying cache, or even as weird as changing the search engine from Google to Yahoo. But we are all users and volunteers, not Apple employees.

If you need official support from Apple, call them, or better yet (always better) stop by a Genius Bar.

Please post back what they recommend, and whether it fixed it.

I went to our local Apple's Genius Bar and the guy took my iPad back to brand new status (wiping everything out). He then reinstalled iOS5 and said that sometimes the upgrades may leave a little of the original iOS in there and that could be enough to corrupt things. The good news is I'm not crashing...the bad news was that once i got home and was able to sync, I had to reorganize all my apps, set up my email, etc. But that was a small price to pay to have this thing working like it should (and did, prior to my upgrading to iOS5).
