Can't delete Unwanted Email addresses, Auto-fill in saves them all !

Nope, not in my phone contact's list. For example there is a friend's Facebook email address in Gmail's contact list, an address that I don't use, don't want and yet cannot delete ---- ah, but have just deleted Facebook from my iPad including all contact info and this friend's details have gone from my Gmail contact list! And all other Facebook friends contact details. Time for a cleanup anyhow ;)

Hmmmm. So it's looking like the iPhone/iPad Mail pulls contacts from ALL contact lists on the iDevice; and that you can only edit/delete from within that particular app's interface. (We don't have Facebook or any other app w/ contacts on our phones, so I can't test this theory to be sure.) If so, then Apple has assumed that if someone is anywhere on your device, you will want to email them. In my case, this is true, so it's no inconvenience.

I recently upgraded my IPhone4 to the 6.3 OS. I still had 5.0 in it before. I had backed all of the IPhone 4 info using Itunes and checking what was all in there with iBackupBot for itunes etc. I was about to reset the IPhone 4 by Erase All Content and Settings but decided one more time to see if the old email adresses were still all there, when I tried to send "say a photo". When I hit a letter for a contact the old email addresses still popped up but something had changed. There was now a Blue Arrow beside the old email addresses that was no longer in my contacts. When I clicked on the Blue Arrow a Red Indicator came up asking if I wanted to remove it? I clicked Yes and poof it's GONE. I went through all the letters of the alphabet and removed ALL of the old email addresses this way.It can take a bit of time depending how many unwanted email addresses you have in there. I don't know if any recent upgrade for IPhone 3 OS has this feature.....good luck!

From the "Home Page" tap "Phone" (green icon), tap the "contact' you want to delete, tap "Edit" (upper right), scroll ALL the way to the bottom of the page and you should see a big red Delete button. Tap on this, then tap it again.

Your answer helped me fix my problem of a broken email address.

I did not delete but instead "edited" the email address.

For those who are still wondering, the issue should not exist in iOS 7 since you can alreadydelete autofill (autosuggest) emails and contacts.

This doesn't work. The names that automatically appear when entering an address in the Send field of my iMac desktop aren't in the Recipient list you reference.
