iPad not charging with 10W USB Power Adapter

Hello everyone.

I tried to charge my battery yesterday with my 10W USB Power Adapter, but it seems that iPad isn't recognizing it as a power adatper. When I plug it, iPad shows me the message Not Charging, the same message that appears when I plug iPad to a USB port. I then connected it to a USB port and my computer doesn’t recognize it anymore. I turned iPad off and plugged it to the power outlet again. The iPad turned on automatically and the message Not Charging appeared. I disconnected the iPad from the outlet and connected again. Nothing happened. As I needed to charge my iPad and it seems to be recognizing my 10W USB Adapter as a normal USB port, I just turned it off again, plugged it to the outlet and when the Not Charging message appeared, I put the iPad to sleep and let it charged this way. A left it over night and it charged from 20% to 89%. The big problem is that now I can’t connect my iPad to my computer, which is a huge problem. What should I do? Any Clues?

I've been having the same problem. My dad just happened to buy one of these at our closest Walmart which is weird considering it says on walmart.com that they don't have pickups from the seller. I've tried two different 10W power adapters and neither one was recognized to charge my iPad 3rd generation. I've actually been quite impressed with this adapter though. Not only does it recognize and charge it, but it charges probably about as well as my power adapter I used for my iPad mini and iPad mini2. It only seems to take a couple of minutes to go up a percent and it only takes a little while to reach a considerable charge using the cord that came with it. It charges quite well even while using the iPad. This is particularly impressive considering the 3rd generation has been known for its slow charging in the past. I hope this helps! 🙂

Try and connect to another computer. If it connects, there's likely a porblem with the USB port on your PC. Try another port; make sure it's a direct port (ie.. not through a hub). If the result of all this is no connection, it sounds like the iPad connector has a problem - take it to be checked out

Well, unfortunently, I have. I´ve tried other computers, other ports... I have even tried another cable with another power adapter! But nothing! I guess my iPad isn't working. 😟
If anyone else have some other suggestion, it'll be much appreciated.

It requires a 2 amp charger... like the one that came with it. The lower powered chragers that work just fine on notebooks and iPhones will not work.

I know that. I'm using the charger that came with the iPad. The other one I've tried is from another iPad. And I used my charger with my cable with another iPad and it worked 😟 I guess I have a dead iPad with me!!!! The biggest problem is that here in Brazil, I don't have an authorized place to take it to repair! I'm so f*ed.

More suggestions?

BoxWave carries this charging adapter, you might want to give it a try. it seems to work from their video.

Thanks for the link, but charging isn't my main concern. Acctualy, one of the problems that I reported is that the computer doesn't recognize my iPad anymore, so, this way, I just can't transfer anything else to it. Anyway, I took it to a repair service. Let's wait to see what they'll find out.

I am having the same problem. Ipad is not charging with the original charger. Anyone else having these problems? I am going to have to get it replaced at an apple store. This is quite annoying.

I have read posts about bad chargers and I sure would point fingers at the cable and or charger before thinking it was the computer or the Ipad.

The lowest cost test would be to get a CAR AUTO USB charger that puts out at least ONE AMP.

ALSO drain the battery and recharge the ipad to full- do this in sleep mode if you have to.

Well, as I mentioned before, I tried another cable with another charger from my friend's iPad and it didn't work as well. After that, tried my cable with my charger with my friend's iPad and it worked, so the problem really is with my iPad. But one thing I have not tried yet, to discharge it completely and then charge it again. I'll give it a try. It'll take forever to charge, but if it works, is better then have it replaced.

Hi all.

I have the same problem. I have tried different chargers, different cables and other Macs. The iPad charges, but very slowly. There is no contact with iTunes at all.

I have seen "not charging" a couple of times when using the 10W power adapter, but most of the times there is no indication of charging.

Resetting the iPad and reinstalling iTunes does not solve the problem.

Yeah, I'll have to do it. I tried to discharge it completely and connect to the power outlet, but no luck. It still doen't recognize the charger.

Hi to Glauco and everyone, after one week with out iPad, reading this post I discovered my problem. Just I pressed hard the connector against iPad and voilá, the icon of read flash show it up, and the icon with wall charge was gone.
I don't know if it's your inssue. But work to me! So it's like that the connector in iPad doesn't work well.
