iPad not charging with 10W USB Power Adapter

Hello everyone.

I tried to charge my battery yesterday with my 10W USB Power Adapter, but it seems that iPad isn't recognizing it as a power adatper. When I plug it, iPad shows me the message Not Charging, the same message that appears when I plug iPad to a USB port. I then connected it to a USB port and my computer doesn’t recognize it anymore. I turned iPad off and plugged it to the power outlet again. The iPad turned on automatically and the message Not Charging appeared. I disconnected the iPad from the outlet and connected again. Nothing happened. As I needed to charge my iPad and it seems to be recognizing my 10W USB Adapter as a normal USB port, I just turned it off again, plugged it to the outlet and when the Not Charging message appeared, I put the iPad to sleep and let it charged this way. A left it over night and it charged from 20% to 89%. The big problem is that now I can’t connect my iPad to my computer, which is a huge problem. What should I do? Any Clues?

Same problem here. Have tried three different cable and power adapter combinations, tried four different recent MacBook Pro's, none of them give any hint of a connection. Just a trickle charge if I leave it connected for a long time. Pushing in the connector isn't helping either.

Would take it to the shop, but working in the middle of nowhere in Turkey all summer. Will have to make do for now. Glad to see here that erasing and reseting doesn't make a difference. Was about to try that but then would have just lost all my Apps and files and not been able to restore them.

As discusses a few times in this forum before, the iPad needs about 2 amps to charge, The charger that comes with theiPad comes with a 2 amp (10 watts) charger. The USB ports in almost all PCs and older Macs only output only 1/2 amp and thus will not charge unless the iPad is sleeping. When charging at low current it charges slowly.

Have people tried to charge it using the wall outlet and not a computer?

This exact problem is happening for me.

I charge my iPad using the wall unit and 10w charger cable that came with the iPad. I do not use my computer to charge my iPad. I use the wall outlet and the iPad-specific cable. Just wanna get that out of the way early.

Everything up until yesterday worked fine. I could plug it in, hear the "I'm charging!" tone, and all was well. When I'd plug it into my computer, it'd connect and the computer could see the iPad, opened up iTunes, and I could sync normally.

Yesterday, I attempted to plug in my iPad to the wall charger with the 10w cord, and nothing happened. I checked all connections, unplugged and replugged, moved the wall unit to a new outlet... Nothing. I tried another cord -this time just an iPhone cord - and nothing happened. No "Not Charging" message, even. I took both cords and my iPad and attempted to plug it in with each cord, and neither iTunes nor my computer responded or acknowledged it was there.

I did a normal power cycle, no change. I did a cold reboot, no change.

Edit to add: I eventually noticed, while leaving iPad plugged into wall despite no acknowledgement, charging was actually happening, but at a much slower rate. It was charging about as quickly as it would normally charge through the USB port on a computer. But it still won't sync or be recognized by the computer.

It must be something with the connector. I am taking my iPad to the Apple store today. I'll update later with any resolution they may find... Or if they replace it.

Yes, NTuttle, this is the exact same behavior as mine. In my case, when I turn the iPad of and plug it to the outlet, it turns on automaticly and the "Not Charging" message appears. If I unpplug the cable and plug it again, nothing happens. I really hope the Apple comes out with a solution. Please, let us know when you hear something from them. I'll be very thankfull.

Glauco

Hi! So, did Apple fix the problem or did they just replace the unit with a new one? I'm having the exact same issue as you and Votec. The thing is, I'm in the Philippines and the iPad hasn't been officially released here yet. I would have to send my iPad back to the Apple Reseller in Singapore where I bought it last month. I want to explain in writing what's wrong with the unit because my cousin will be the one to bring it back to Singapore for service. Any input from you guys who have experienced the same problem with the iPad and how it was resolved would be highly appreciated. Thanks!
