iTunes 9.2 - unable to play videos ...

Hello, I've got problem to see videos :
I bought yesterday 6 movies, which I can't see in iTunes (9.2, quicktime X, safari 5). I only see a black screen, and no sound at all.
I tried to read one of those movies on another computer (iTunes 9,1, quicktime X, Safari 4) ... And it works !
Does anyone have an idea to solve my problem, considering that the older videos works fine on my computer ? Thanks in advance for your answers.

MBP 17", Mac OS X (10.6.3)

After spending an hour at the genius bar at the local apple store & leaving my laptop there overnight, the problem was resolved. I didn't get a straight answer from the tech (who was otherwise very good), other than that he did an archive & reinstall (basically saving all personal data, doing a fresh OS install, then putting the personal data back). No charge for this (as expected), and they are refunding me for my download.

I expect this is related to some sort of software bug in the latest update. The same movie/file played fine on another PC on my home network & on a test machine at the apple store...

Count me as yet another person affected by this shenanigans. I just transferred a Digital Copy of Star Trek over from the Blu-Ray and got the same issue. Originally I thought something we wrong with the transfer, until I decided to sync my iPod to see if I'd still get that gray screen. Nope, worked on the iPod.

Hopefully they fix this soon!

I've experienced this problem when using a particular client management software suite that let me order the software that went on a computer. The order of the software determined its priority and I found that whenever there was an iTunes update, there's was often a QuickTime update that accompanied it. The QuickTime update needed to be placed in a higher priority position relative to iTunes or this "lack of video" issue would result.

So, my question is: has anyone tried reinstalling the latest build of QuickTime after their iTunes upgrade?

Regarding the authorization loop issue, deleting the /Users/Shared/SC Info/ directory so that it gets rebuilt has worked for me in the past. It's important to make sure that directory is read/write/execute to the world and I believe having the directory recreated after deletion ensures proper ownership/permissions.

Sorry I don't have these issues at the moment, but best of luck to you all!

Similar issue here. It wants me to authorize my computer that is already authorized. I get the message that my computer is already authorized followed by the black screen no sound. I have followed all the trouble shooting steps on the web, walk through them with an apple expert, and emailed support (they are all the same steps) and nothing works. Your right in that is is since the upgrade. I have emailed them again.

They can't just sell something that does not work and not fix it. iTunes did not get successful because its buyer beware.

I to am having the same issue everyone else is. Out of no where I got an idea though: why not try to put the "non=playable" content onto my iPhone and see if that work. Lo and behold, even though iTunes on my Macbook Pro won't play the content, it plays perfectly fine on my iPhone. Granted, I know this isn't a permanent fix but at least it offers a way to watch the 30 dollars in television content that I downloaded recently that before I couldn't view. Hope this helps!

I also have the same problems. But also I can't move the content to the iPad - "you are not authorized to " pops up. I tried going backwards to 9.1 but now I lost the first 2 episodes of Dexter and had to go back to 92. Is anyone aware of a nice clear explanation of how to move to an earlier version of iTunes. I'd rather be able to watch my content then getios4 on my iPhone 3G anyway. Thanks.

I'm having the same problem with playback. iTunes keeps asking for authorization, ultimately shows grey screen with no audio. QuickTime X doesn't ask for authorization and shows a black screen, while QuickTime 7.6.6 sends me to iTunes for authorization and then shows a grey screen with no audio. I sent a note to Apple, who suggested that I download QuickTime 7.6.6. I figured I would give it a shot since sometimes reinstallation does help, but the installer won't let me install the software, saying that I already have QuickTime X, so I can't install 7.6. Unless there's a way to either get a separate download of QuickTime X or someone knows how to force the 7.6 installer to work, that may be a dead end.

Ok, here's what finally worked for me:

1. Download the 10.6.4 Combo Updater (using Safari on Apple's support pages, not Software Update)
2. Download the iTunes 9.2 installer (using Safari on Apple's support pages, not Software Update)
3. Delete iTunes application
4. Delete AppleMobileDevice.kext from /Library/Extensions
5. Run 10.6.4 Combo Updater and restart
6. Run iTunes 9.2 installer (no restart needed)

I can FINALLY play all of my purchased content, no gray screens, no missing audio. Hope this helps others!

Hi - and thanks for your post. I did just what you suggested and all went well with the repeated update etc. But - alas - my movie transferred from iPad still shows the grey screen (of death) - I resented the movie from the iPad of course. This movie still plays fine on the iPad, still. I wrote to iTunes support on the matter, but no answer until now. Hope that shall be fixed soon. For the time being, I don’t buy movies from Apple, sorry.
