ipad unlimited data plan

I purchased ipad on 2nd of June. Was told unlimited data plan would be honored if ipad was purchased before June 7th. There doesn't seem to be anyway to get that planned honored. Called Apple after receiving my Ipad on the 17th and they said yes that they got a memo from AT&T that said they would honor the the unlimited plan but Apple said to call them because they had nothing to do with the implimination of the plan. Call AT&T and they said no that it was Itunes that was managing the service. Check on line in Itunes and they say call AT&T for any plan question. Is this the run around or what? Anyone have any ideas.

I purchased my iPad on June 4th immediately after I found out that AT&T was extending the unlimited plan for purchases made by the 7th. It was the reason I ordered my iPad on that date. I specifically asked the sales rep. if it were necessary for me to activate my data plan by the 7th and the answer was a definitive no.

My iPad arrived this morning with no option to enable the unlimited data plan.

I contacted Apple who told me to call AT&T.

I called AT&T who said that they couldn't help and that I had to take proof of purchase to an AT&T store.

I drove to the AT&T store and they said that they didn't perform iPad activations in the store. They advised me to enable to 2G plan and then call the AT&T customer support to have my plan switched to unlimited.

I activated the 2G plan, called AT&T and they told me that there was no way that the unlimited plan was no longer available. AT&T directed me back to Apple.

I called Apple back and the (nice) support rep. spent about 20 minutes on hold with AT&T getting the runaound. Finally he said there was nothing he could do and transferred me to his manager.

The Apple supervisor attempted to call AT&T and got the runaround himself and he told me that there was nothing he could do for me.

I currently own 2 iPads, 2 MacBook Pros, an iPhone and various other apple peripherials. I am an almost constant user of the AppStore and iTunes. No longer. If this is not resolved very very soon my MacBooks are going to be replaced with Ubuntu and I'm switching to Android phones.

I am having the same situation as Bill. I planned on purchasing an iPad when the second model came out but when I heard about the unlimited plan, I purchased it on June 4th and received it today. I spent 3+ hours on the phone between Apple and AT&T.

I called both Apple and AT&T on June 4th BEFORE I made my purchase and was told the unlimited plan would be available to me. This was also posted on the Apple iPad Store page. Today, both told me the unlimited plan was not guaranteed.

The best I could get is AT&T submitted a trouble ticket. The rep had me sign up for the $14.99/month plan so I had an account. She said IF it was approved, my iPad would automatically show the unlimited plan. She said this could take up to 3 days.

I just received mine today. Ordered June 4th. Went to Apple store tonite to let them open the box. They agreed to give me a full refund, no return fee if I didnt get my unlimited option. The unlimited option was not there. they sent me to the AT&T store at the same mall as they said they couldnt help. The guy at AT&T said that Apple screwed us all. SO what happened that it suddenly appeared for you. Any help appreciated.

Update... I called 866-640-5125 number and waited approximately 2 1/2 hours; but, I was able to activate the unlimited data plan within 2 minutes after talking to an AT&T customer service rep. After reading the thread, I signed up for the 2G plan while waiting and the only information needed to activate the unlimited plan immediately(took approximately 2 minutes):
* Call back number just in case we were disconnected on the call
* Cellular Data Number (Settings/General/About)
* I verified my address
The good news is that you apparently no longer have to wait 7-10 days for Apple to verify that you purchased the Ipad prior to the June 6th deadline. I hope this information helps. Good luck everyone.

There's no need to ask for a supervisor. When you call 866 640 5125 they'll answer the phone and ask you immediately(after you've waited on hold forever) if you're calling about the unlimited plan. Once you get ahold of a live person it takes 5 minutes top. Go ahead and activate your 2G plan because they need that active in order to switch you over to the unlimited.
