very slow download from iTunes store today 6/18/2010

It seems that downloads from the store are extremely slow this afternoon. a movie that normally downloads in 10 to 15 minutes, is now likely to take 4 to 6 hours! Is there a known issue at the store end. (using speedtest.net I've verified my download performance as 25Mbps) Is anybody else seeing this kind of poor download speeds

I am having the same issues with download speeds from iTunes. It has reached the point where I will no longer be purchasing content on iTunes due to the poor download speeds. The most recent example: It gave me an estimate of 7hrs to download the newest iOS4.01 upgrade...INSANE. Infact most of the time the downloads will just stop and sit there with no progress.

I have triple checked everything on my end and it is nothing to do with my internet connection. The only issue I have with connection speeds is when dealing with iTunes.

Fix it apple, I am coming very close to throwing the towel in on iTunes.

I'm averaging 175 KB/s with an itunes TV episode rental which takes about 3 painful hours to download.

Whats interesting is when I download two rentals (2 with +simultaneous downloads+ checked), the combined download speed roughly doubles

So:
Single HD rental download ((greys anatomy season 7 ep1) for my wife:) )
= avg. 175KB/s

and when 2 at the same time:

(greys anatomy season 7 ep1)
+
(greys anatomy season 7 ep2)
= avg. 430KB/s

Weird & a bummer...

I have a premium connection through comcast in san francisco. Speedtest.net is yielding about 3MB/sec
The computer is is directly connected to a gigabit router, then the cable modem.

So much for impulse rentals...

I have been experiencing slow iTunes downloads as well, and this article showed up in my RSS reader this morning:

http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/10/12/20/appletv_itunes_downloads_slowed_by_googledns.html

It seems to only be speculation at this time (nothing confirmed by Apple), but using an alternate DNS service such as Google DNS or OpenDNS might be to blame.

I am indeed using Google DNS and reverting back to my ISP's DNS as I write this post, so I can't comment on it yet but I'll report back to this thread in a few days with my results (improvements or status quo in iTunes download speed).

If anybody following this thread is using an alternate DNS service, it would be helpful to get your results as well to see if it is indeed the cause of slow downloads.

I'm getting crazy slow speeds for a 3.3 GB HD movie. The other two files in the download were fine (regular movie and the extras). It is downloading 1 MB in about 15 minutes!!!! I have an 8 Mbps internet connection, and just downloaded a 100 MB music album in 3 minutes. It seems to just be slow on the very large file. I contacted my ISP (Roger's in Canada) and they claim it is not their fault (if anything I would expect them to throttle only p2p downloads). Sometimes I get connection errors (which is strange because the connection to my wireless router is perfect--1 ms pings).

At this rate it will be weeks to download this one movie (this is a purchased movie, not a rental).

Anyone have this dramatic difference between the speed of HD movie download and other purchases??

Exactly the same problem here. Download speeds seem to be particularly (read excruciatingly) slow for HD movie downloads - it's currently saying another 8 hours ⚠ for the remaining 900MB of a 1.81 file which has already taken 4 hours. And the download keeps stopping (error 3150). Other downloads (ie outside iTunes) are fine and browser and other speeds are fine. It must be in the iTunes server. Not good if they want to keep me buying stuff.....
