very slow download from iTunes store today 6/18/2010

It seems that downloads from the store are extremely slow this afternoon. a movie that normally downloads in 10 to 15 minutes, is now likely to take 4 to 6 hours! Is there a known issue at the store end. (using speedtest.net I've verified my download performance as 25Mbps) Is anybody else seeing this kind of poor download speeds

I've never make any changes to my settings and it is only itunes and ATV2 that is going slow. I am wondering if it is their servers even though they say it's not since when i get home from work it is going fast and finishes in a few min. Then it's like in a matter of a few min it drops to 10-16 hrs to download a movie. It has done this every night this week since i bought my ATV.

I'm in the exact same boat with the slow Apple downloads. This is affecting everything from iTunes to move trailers, etc. But the strange thing is, it's only happening during evening hours. Once the morning rolls around, things are up to speed again. I'm on a fast fiber connection here in Okinawa, Japan connecting to the United States iTunes store. It seems like a lot of these problems are occurring outside of the United States so I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

Same here.

Downloading apps on the iPhone and iPad was taking too long so I tried it via iTunes on my Macbook. Download speed is about 20 KByte/s.

Internet, Mail and all other network stuff is the same as always (speedtest.net shows a 30 Mbit download and a 3 Mbit upload).

Is it because off the App store on the Mac (more connections to Apple making it slower??).

Just wanted to add to this thread.

I found latest iTunes and OSX also gives the same issue here.

Although id like to throw this into the equation. I was trying to get the latest iPhone update through iTunes - there are also non iTunes direct links to Apples site (quite easy to find on the net).

The direct download maxed out my internet connection, the update through iTunes was a ridiculous 15kbs - it took 4 1/2 hours to download a file that would have taken 25 minutes with direct connection.

So its not Apples server as the direct link from the same server were fine - im using Google DNS and that downloaded at full speed, however iTunes seems to be doing something very strange.

Same thing happening to me on iTunes and Apple TV. If Apple is going to keep pushing online content, this problem needs to be fixed...soon! Last night my wife and I tried to watch an episode of The Killing but had to wait 30 minutes for the show to buffer enough to watch while downloading! Today I'm trying to get two more episodes and am showing 4-6 hour downloads. I'm very disappointed.

See post by Melbye - "Are you guys new to the internet or something? If you start downloading a movie and it's slow, pause it and restart it a couple of times until it speeds up... oldest trick in the book."

My movie download started at 4 hours, then finally 3 hours so I researched this discussion and tried what he says.

Went from 3 hours to 14 min right away. Hit pause, wait a few seconds, hit resume. Brilliant. Thank you.

HEY!!!! Seriously Apple, what gives??!! I used to be able to download a regular def movie from Itunes, go fix me a sandwich and 5 minutes later be able to almost directly stream the movie and watch it real time as it downloaded. It too about at the most, 2 hours. Now it takes over 5 hours!

This has been going on for a couple of months now. There is NO REASON for me to pay extra to rent a movie from apple if it takes this long. Amazon takes half the time to download and at this point, Itunes is making me rethink walking those 3 blocks down the street to the nearest redbox.

You will loose many clients very soon if you don't fix this. Apple and itunes is supposed to be the BMW of services and products, that's why we pay EXTRA!!

I would suggest you start taking better care of your costumers

Yes perhaps that's something we used to do on illigal downloading sites and all, not something i want to be doing or worring about with a "premium" service such as Itunes. For the price we pay to rent or buy movie it should be a click once and forget about it experience.

What you are saying was all good when you are getting free content from those sites, not Itunes.
