Change the file extension from .jpg to .jpeg for picture files.
Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
I find that when I forward the email to myself then the iphone/ipad opens the file. weird but it has always worked for me.
I appears that something in the update process disabled the ability of the Apple mAil app to handle some mime attachments. After upgrading with the security code for 7.0.6 I was no longer able to handle mime-attachments that contained jpgs. These used to work. I know the mail attachments come thru okay because if I forward them to a Linux system it handles them with ease. It's just embarrassing that Apple is unable to fix this. The problem is not solved/addressed in the 7.1 update -- it also fails. This also affects the aZul app which I use to handle .swf files and other things that Apple for political reasons chooses not to handle. It appears the attachment cannot be recognized by aZul and it just gives up. This tells me that something in the the mAil app has changed or an access method used by the apps has a problem. The iPad had a way to go before it becomes a multi-purpose tool. Disappointed that Apple testing didn't catch problems before the release of the recent updates. These things used to work.
I see this is still causing some confusion, I have only just had this start happen since the recent updates, mainly with JPEGs being forwarded to my iPhone from Entourage. I have been watching this thread hoping someone from Apple would step in.
The way I get this to work on my iPhone is to forward the message onto myself again, I think someone else suggested this in here (dolceamarovita), whilst this doesn't fix the problem it lets you view the image and from there save it to your camera roll. Some people are reporting problems opening PDFs since the update aswell, this is a separate issue.
Cheers, Malcs
I have an I phone 4S and an I pad Air. My wife also has an I Phone 4S. These attachments will open on my phone but not on my Wife's or the I Pad. The phone settings are identical as far as I can see.
I Have this issue in Australia and it appears to come from just one source who is using 'iinet.com.au'
havent had a problem from any other source. I have iphone4 and latest iPad Air.
Happens to me most of the time, but not every time!! Some jpg attachment downloads and opens fine, but most only show up as Mime Attachment and I can't open it. It always seems to jpg files. These emails were sent from Outlook.
