iPad won't turn on...

I turned off my iPad and went to turn it on again right away because I wanted to check something. The **** thing will not turn on. Even if I hook it up to my Mac or power cable the charging screen will not start nor will iTunes start. The battery was at about 50%. The iPad is DEAD!! Does anyone know what is wrong or how I can power it back on. Its not reacting to anything I do.

Hello, welcome to Apple Discussions.

Try holding the sleep/wake button (top right) and the home button (bottom center) for about 10 seconds. If that doesn't work then try doing the same procedure with it plugged into a power source.

If that doesn't work then try this article:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
(it only says iPhone and iPod Touch but the process for the iPad is the same)

My 3G iPad had 34% charge when I pushed the sleep break, came back 2 minutes later and it would not turn on again.Connected the iPad to the wall charger and would not turn on.Did the Hold/Sleep reset and still would not turn on.Called Apple and tech did a few things to check for issue and agreed it's dead. Now have to send in and get a refurbished iPad back from Apple. Not very happy.

Well, days passed and I moved from Cochin, India, to Kuala Lampur, Malaysia. But waiting for some saving grace on my iPad, did everything possible, did not work, tried all what is posted in this forun, Finally took it to the Apple dealer in KL called Machines, good guys, helpful but not with saving my data, they re-installed the software to factory defaults. Lost all my stuff,
I now know the iPad looks good, limited possibilities and like a website aptly put: iPad is a good toy, don't take it too seriously.
Good luck guys, Save your data! If there is a way of doing it!

Thank you!!

I freaked out because it wasn't working. Thank goodness this has happened before. I was using my ipad, turn to answer the phone, and five minutes later when I got back the screen was black and nothing was working.
I read your message (I read it wrong at first - didn't hold both the buttons), and it worked after about twenty seconds.

THANK YOU!! 🙂

My iPad (I've owned it for 41 days) just died today at 63% battery life and after 5 min of use. I had tried the two button 10 second thing a few times and tried with it plugged in, no reaction. Thankfully someone else posted today that it took them twenty seconds and sure enough, I tried it once more for 20 sec and it finally came on at 21 sec. I find from this forum that this seem to happen after people have owned it for a month. Shouldn't people be warned since this seemed to be such a common problem. Perhaps I should have waited for the new iPad.

I have a slightly different problem with my ipad1. Mine turns on fine and tells me that my SIM is locked asper usual. When I slide the slider across, the screen changes with a message notice to Unlock SIM (as per usual) and then the ipad switches off before I have time to react. This hapens every time I switch the ipad on. Even after holding down the sleep and menu buttons it makes no differece - I seem to be stuck in this loop. Has anybody got any suggestions. Many thanks.
