iPad won't turn on...

I turned off my iPad and went to turn it on again right away because I wanted to check something. The **** thing will not turn on. Even if I hook it up to my Mac or power cable the charging screen will not start nor will iTunes start. The battery was at about 50%. The iPad is DEAD!! Does anyone know what is wrong or how I can power it back on. Its not reacting to anything I do.

Hello, welcome to Apple Discussions.

Try holding the sleep/wake button (top right) and the home button (bottom center) for about 10 seconds. If that doesn't work then try doing the same procedure with it plugged into a power source.

If that doesn't work then try this article:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
(it only says iPhone and iPod Touch but the process for the iPad is the same)

Thanks for this post. Thought I had to plan a trip to Apple store. Turned iPad off and went to turn it back on and nothing happened. Plugged into charger, connected to MacBook, held power button for > 10 seconds, held the home button, but still nothing until I read this forum that directed me to hold power and home button at same time. Powered up and it is now completing a restore. Will likely lose a few very important notes that were not synced this week, but its not a complete lost as my iPad seems to be working again 🙂

Big Problems now...Please help! IPAD will not turn on...is fully charged. ITunes is not recognizing IPAD to back up recent data. Holding the two buttons down helped when this first started happening 1-2 months ago, but does not help now. When plugged into electricity and the two buttons are held down, after 1-3 minutes it intermittentently asks for ITunes, but during the brief time that I am unplugging from elect and plugging into PC to sync, it shuts off again.

Tomorrow I have appt at the Genius Bar, and I am told that if the IPAD is sent away it is wiped clean. Data is not backed up due to syncing not working.

What do I do? SOS!

Thanks, Joanne

Hi all, same thing happened to my ipad today, but i was afraid to reboot incase i lost all the apps etc, that i had downloaded and paid for. So before i did that nifty little trick mentioned earlier i rang apple support. The tech guy told me to do exactly what was mentioned earlier, and that i wouldnt lose any of my apps, unless you completely restore the device. As there seems to be so many people with the same problem, i asked the guy was this a common problem with the software, he said it wasn't (but i think many people in this thread would disagree with that). I did ask was there going to be an attempt to fix whatever glitch this is and he asked was my system up to date, which it was and that this shouldnt occur again. He said that if it did occur again to keep doing the reboot thing, and that if it continues to occur then it could be a hardware problem and that to send it back to them. He wasnt very upfront with regards to why or when this problem would stop, but at least they are willing to fix it for you if it is a hardware malfunction!

I just had the same problem. my battery was at 95 % or higher. I was using the internet, got up from table to leave the house and when I got into my car I heard the e mail alert sound but when I went to read the E-Mail the screen was black and would not turn on, I tried everything but nothing would work.. after reading the forums I tried the home button and on/off button for 10 second trick and it worked. Not sure why it did this in the first place? Now kinda worried its going to have more problems in the future and I've only had this thing 2 months. Anyone know why this happens?

Was on a long haul flight to Kochi, India, worked on my Ipad for 6 hours, happy with my work, landed, went to sleep, woke up in the morning to find my Ipad not powering on. Did soome googling, came to this site, relieved User uploaded file
Now it finally started but asks me to connect to iTunes. will not take me anywhere,
When I connect to iTunes, I get a message on Itunes "iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes"
I am afraid I will loose all the data and my pictures. Any way to restore without loss of data!
Please help!
