So, I just installed iOS 4 on my 32GB 3GS. The download itself took about 3 minutes and then the installation took about 30 minutes. But to be fair, most of the installation was restoring all my data back onto the phone.
I am looking forward to messing around with the new OS and posting more impressions.
What do you guys think of the new OS?
13" MacBook Pro 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo,
Mac OS X (10.6.4),
32 GB iPhone 3GS; 32 GB iPhone 4 Black (delivers on June 24)
Not possible to have any initial impressions yet: download was quick, install is not happening. Even though I already did a backup of phone, install starts over with a new backup that never finishes. Backup progress was only about 2% after an hour..... will try again later when I have time. But this is pretty ludicrously long....
I LOVE the folders. I'm a heavy app user, so I had 6-7 pages of apps. I just condensed that down to a simple page and a half without deleting a single one of my 97 applications.

Isn't that great? This is my favorite feature so far!
One other great feature I love so far... Portrait Orientation Lock. I'm so tired of the screen flip-flopping around as I tilted my hand. This was much-needed.
Figured out folders - fantastic! Just drag apps on top of each other 🙂
Went out running using GetRunning with a playlist running. On the way back in both paused - but I didnt know Getrunning had paused and I assumed my playlist had ended. This was a first - coincidence with the upgrade?
It's a Great Update, no problems what-so-ever, and everything works perfectly well, and I'm enjoying the new feature set. I don't see any slow down, or any of the other BS Problem stories running around on the forums.
From what I can see, from a network engineers viewpoint, most of these "problems" are self inflicted by not using some common sense, and messing with software, and procedures, they shouldn't be.
I just had one total idiot call me about some issues - he jailbroke his phone, fixed it, and has done all kinds of nasty stuff to it, so now it has bricked. He earned it. It is still fixable, but I'm not going to fix it until I get off. Blasted idiot - thinks he knows more than the Apple engineers. Typical Winblows abuser - they nearly all have a screw loose, somewhere.
Is anyone else bothered by how you have to click and hold on an app in the multitasking bar in order to close it? What if you have like 15 running apps? It's going to be a fuss to close them all...
Wallpapers are nice because you can still have lock screen wallpaper and different home screen background. Just go into Wallpapers and select new image and it will ask if you want to use it for Lock Screen, Home Screen or both. Change the Home screen to one of the non-busy images and there ya go.
