iOS 4 Initial impressions

So, I just installed iOS 4 on my 32GB 3GS. The download itself took about 3 minutes and then the installation took about 30 minutes. But to be fair, most of the installation was restoring all my data back onto the phone.

I am looking forward to messing around with the new OS and posting more impressions.

What do you guys think of the new OS?

13" MacBook Pro 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Mac OS X (10.6.4), 32 GB iPhone 3GS; 32 GB iPhone 4 Black (delivers on June 24)

i still can't believe that it took over 30 minutes to run a back-up before syncing....and on an i7 with 8GB RAM!!!

what is the point of having folders if you can't even put an entire screen's worth of apps into one folder???

i don't give a rip about the other crap in this update....unified inbox? yawn multitasking? *battery waster* folders? *dropped the ball on this*

how about adding the ability to download custom sounds for MMS? that would send a chill up my leg.

*****, it erased everything on my phone and i've been on the computer for 4 hours waiting to for this thing to update and no luck what so ever, there are more problems then there is happy people, i've lost contacts, apps, photos, music, everything. and to boot i'm still wait for the "restoring iphone software" b.s. and its been half an hr on top of the 4 hrs i already waited. complete b.s. very disappointed, lost a lot of pics, a lot which makes me furious.

I had the same thing, I couldn't find the Notes sync option that people were talking about but finally figured out that I had to delete my Gmail account which was setup as an Exchange account and then reset it up as a Google account.

Great, I had Notes sync now but in doing so it removed sync from Contacts which to me is more important.

I just deleted the account again and set the Exchange on back up.

I am having a b *h of a time with the Calendar sync at the moment, for some reason my Birthdays calendar subscription has triplicated all the entries.

Where do you adjust portration orientation?

Double click the home button. Next swipe your thumb/finger from left to right on the multi tasking section icons at the bottom of the iPhone screen, until you see a square icon with a circular shaped arrow inside it (its a grey square/icon. Tap it once and it shows 'PORTRAIT ORIENTATION LOCKED'. 🙂

You are warned that the iPhone contents will be erased. So you should have backed up your iPhone just prior to updating and then backed up the information of the iPhone backup to an external source (external hard drive, USB stick etc), this is what I did just incase anything went wrong (it didn't thankfully).
