Iphone 3G OS4 problems

Just downloaded and installed the OS4 for my 16gb Iphonr 3G had no errors or anything installing it like some of the other guys have posted BUT!.... once installed my iphone has been very slow only word i can use to discribe it is "lagy" my iphone has only got like 6gb out of the 16gb used so it shouldnt be that i dont have many apps installed But why this lag? Once i click the home button to open the unlock screen 20 seconds later it will finally open i cant use my phone until this is fixed.

Mail: Just checked my mail inbox to find 2000+ emails which i have already deleted on the iphone and now ive got to go through and tick every single email to delete it wheres the "select all" button? the OS before OS 4 had this? and no way of getting emails which i have deleted back? once i click delete they are gone forever unlike the old OS it would put them in a deleted folder which i can click "empty" so it would be good if they could bring that back in the next update.

Thanks,

Why in the world won't Apple provide a simple way for us to revert back to OS3? Why do they WANT dissatisfied customers? I don't want to go to some hacker's website to restore my phone-- I've done the hard reboots, etc., and still have problems. I just want Apple to give me the option of going BACK to the OS that actually WORKED on my phone. 😟 This really IS like a Microsoft experience. Unless Apple comes up with a solution SOON, I'm getting a Droid for my next phone, without question. Grrrr!

Can we at least get some acknowledgment from Apple that they are aware there is a problem? (I know - how naive.) I would think the number of posts on this topic would make them scratch their collective heads.

This is really taking the shine off Apple for me. I know we have older phones, but they should at least help us keep them functional. If I would buy an iPhone 4, would I be treated the same way when the next generation comes along? It's really making me think that I should join a different cult.

I am a little hesitant in downloading any new updates to the OS for my iphone 3G as I have had an appalling experience since OS4.0.

Both times I have tried to update since to the newer version (4.0 and 4.0.1) it has simply bricked the phone until I take it into an Apple store for them to restore it to the new OS. I havent lost anything doing this, only countless hours at first investigating solutions to why the phone wont update, trying to get from 'connect to itunes screen' to a working model, and more time trekking to Apple stores and waiting for them to fix it.

However, the promise of a faster (useable) phone again is appealing. At the moment it is very slow, when typing sms, opening apps, trying to use safari, trying to unlock from lock screen, pretty much doing ANYTHING. However, for me the updates have been a ballache, so can anyone tell me who has had the same slowness issues if the new update really resolves this.

I am using 2 year old Sony Vaio Dual Core with Windows Vista. (As a side note, do you guys think this is why I can never complete an update from my laptop?).

Any advice would be much appreciated.

If you read through the forum some people say it works great, some say it doesn't. I would say overall it's definitely better than 4.01 & 4.02. My person experience is that it's about 90% of 3.1.3 on my phone with some occasional "stickiness" that was never in 3.1.3. If I didn't have a reason (app-wise) to update I wouldn't have.
Your mileage may vary.

I just got developer notice that 4.2 will be out in November.

4.1 fixed all of the issues I was having. One old issue seems to have come back. That is, if my phone looses the Cell tower sometimes it does not get it back.

It will usually just say "searching" forever. One time it eventually say "no service".

Normally, just like when this bug happened back in OS 2 or an early version of 3, going into and out of Airplane mode fixed it.

But today, when it went into "no service" airplane mode had no effect. I had to reboot. I was starting to wonder if the cell tower was actually down, but after it came up it connected in a second or two.

Definitely a bug.

After a week since upgrading this has exactly been my experience as well. Rare and brief (2-3 second) email stickiness (I am using Microsoft Exchange) and the rare Safari crash. This aside ...it seems on par with 3.1.3. The only other thing I have noticed is with signal strength (the # of bars shown is less) ...but this had not effected my using the phone.

Downgraded to 3.1.3 ? Nope. I downgraded a couple of months ago. I had to reinstate a few things like apps and settings and lost texting history etc. But that was NOTHING compared with the misery of 4.0.1.

No problems with 3.1.3 whatsoever. I have about 6 pages of apps and haven't had one crash. No delays or freezes. Nothing. It flies along at great speed.

Indeed similar experience here, 3.1.3 is still better and more slick.

My 4.1.0 is significantly better than 4.0.0. But even so I still see my phone running very hot at times, also the signal strength meter annoys me now for being so low(and yes I know the purpose of this change). Phone also lags a bit after running for a few days, I've had my camera still lagging and even had a crash on the mail app. A full reboot with the two button hold brings back the speed.

I'd like to have 3.1.3 back on my phone, but I can live with 4.1.0 to have multitasking ability...

My eligibility for the iPhone 4 comes up in Feb, so I'll most likely upgrade then for the speed and better camera. And at that point limit any software "upgrades"...I guess Apple wins !!!

I have had zero problems since the downgrade. My 3G is zippy and fresh and great again.

If you prefer, you can buy the latest copy of Mac|Life which details the steps needed for a downgrade.

I will NEVER upgrade my iPhone 3G beyond 3.13... no matter what Apple offers. I am convinced that the iPhone 4G will no longer be supported when the 5th generation is released, and my next phone is no longer an iPhone by default.

I need to be as impressed with Apple's customer dedication as I am with their technological and marketing ability.

All .... A long time ago I rolled my phone back to 3.1.3. It works great..... as the saying goes, "if it works, don't fix it". Ver4.x is not for me....... Don't care about any of the "upgrades". What good are they if the phone is ruined, even a little. No thanks! I'll wait till my time is up, then re-evaluate the options. The Android phones are definitely getting better, and the margin of "better" for Apple is rapidly dissolving. Another 6 months and the landscape will be even more competitive. Apple better get on with it and recover the once stellar releases. This go around has definitely been a loyalty breaker, and I for one, will no longer blindly trust what they push out. To bad they just don't seem to care.
