Since Friday of last week, I have tryed 5 times to update my 3G to 4.0 with no luck what-so-ever. The longest time my iPhone was on backup was over 24 hours, 5 hours being the shortest. The task bar at the top of the screen keeps stalling at 1/3 of the duration. I just cannot backup my iPhone to even install version 4.0.

    JUST DO A HARD RESET!!!!
    nothing else.

to FIX the SLOW performance on iPhone 3G with iOS4, just do a Hard Reset: press and hold the lock button and the home button together till the iPhone shutdown. Wait some seconds (15 +-) and then turn it on again.

do it twice.. or even more.
I had to do it 3 times.

It fixes a lot of things on iPhone and my iPhone 3G is running as fast as ever.

    =D

I'm not sure if anyone else has mentioned or experienced this but my iPhone's usage time increases like crazy even when not in use. For example, today my phone was on standby for like 15 h 53 m but it says I used the phone for 11 h 25 m!!!!

I'm very, very sure I wasn't glued to my phone at WORK for 11 hours straight (or accumulated). I suspect this is the cause of my battery draining. I'm pretty sure I used less than 3 hours' worth to do a bit of FB, texting, one short phone call and checking mail. No push nor fetch.

Battery's at 21 percent after testing how long the battery would last. It definitely used to last a LOT longer

Anyone got any ideas? Planning to do a hard reset... or several...

Following the IOS4 update, my 3G phone has not worked at all since. It is just a continuos start up loop. Apple support online and on the phone could not help. They set up a meeting for me at the genius bar to see if they can help. They really should have tested thoroughly before allowing it to update 3G phones. I expected more than this from Apple. Kinda disappointed:(

Hi there all you equally frustrated people.

In some ways its nice to know I'm not alone, but as a staunch supporter of apple for 20 years I wish that I didn't have to say this.

MY IPHONE IS PANTS! I updated to OS4 and its like living in the stone age.

Its slow, to the point of just leave it alone and make a cuppa while it figures out what i asked.

It can't cope with opening my calendar - it either crashes or takes an age to open.

The unlock only responds once in every 5 attempts to access the phone (although this might be a slow reaction to me prodding it again and again in annoyance)

And best of all - half the time it takes soooooooooo long to respond that I actually MISS phone calls because i can't swipe to unlock it.

O M G APPLE What are you thinking? - this is the kind of buggy and unreliable OS that we'd expect from the dark side, not from shiny lovely apple.

And I hate to say it but my lovely shiny new Mac Book Pro has similiar issues - random software quits, hangs and more. I could have got the same performance in a less pretty box for a third the price if i'd bought a PC.

But then someone went and dangled the 4G at me today - oh. pretty. fast. sleek. mmmm but still 6 months on my 3G contract!

ok, rant over. just pleased to not be alone.

Is it possible to go back to OS3.x.x if you've installed OS4? Will the apps I've downloaded work on the 3.x.x? This OS4 as aggravated me so bad, I think I'll dig my Windows 6.1 phone and just use this 3G POS as an iPod.

I had the same email issue. It loaded 200 of my old ones. I have had no lag problems. The only problem I am having now is when I turn it off and power back on it has no service. So I turn on the airplane mode then off again (airplane mode) and it fixes it, until I turn it off again. Then I have to go back through it again.

I have to agree with everyone here. My 3G phone is barely working. Connection to 3G spotty and app performance (all apps) is so bad that I can barely stand to use them. I've attempted multiple resets with no problems. The phone is actually getting rather hot when I use it now.

All due respect to Apple, which has given us quite a bit of great stuff, this is pretty concerning. Not to go into detail, but friends in graphic design have been giving me horror stories about the Apple systems and software in general lately. Now my phone is barely functional and the iPhone 4 has some unbelievable issue with losing signal when...you hold it???

Gee, why in the world would I be tempted to get the upgrade now? Can we get some feedback on the steps that are being taken to address these issues?

While attempting to install OS4 I recieved the error message "iTunes could not connect to this iPhone because an unknown error occured (0x800006B)."

Since then my phone has been trying to boot and after a few seconds the boot fails, the Apple logo and progress bar dissapear and it tries to boot all over again. My phone is now unuseable. I have tried to restart the phone several times and I've tried to do a restore several times as well. iTunes will recognize the phone for a few seconds while the progress bar is on the display but when the phone crashes and reboots it is no longer recognized. I even updated the USB drivers and replaced the USB cable.

It sounds like there are others who have had the same problem but has anyone found a fix yet?

My update took just about an hour. I know based on what im reading is way faster then alot of peoples. BUT since then I've had major issues. As others have reported the gps does not work, the phone is sluggish and doesnt respond well to sliding to unlock the phone or taping the screen. In the few days since my update my phone has frozen completly to the point I cant even turn it off. I feel a full brick coming on. I hope apple does something soon. I've already heard word of a class action being put together in California by 3g users. Apple could do me solid and give me 3gs or a 4 and id be happy. But to leave us hanging like this? This is all completly unacceptable.

    This advice was VERY HELPFUL!
    Thank you!

Why should I have to keep restarting , hardstarting and reseting my phone, because apple didn't advise us against what this update would do to our phones!!!!! They need to send oput an auto downgrade for the 3G user's. Oh wait that might mean apple would have to do something for free for their customers.........

Went to the Apple store in San Luis Obispo yesterday. Employee admitted there have been lots of complaints but no solutions. I told her I just want the old OS back and she said, "No problem." Perplexed, I asked her how to do it. She went to the Apple web site, looked around, and then googled OS 3.2. She then told me she would be right back. She went to the back of the store for 5 minutes. When she returned she told me she did not have an official solution but I could go to one of the hacknmac web sites and do it there. Wow!!! Talk about crappy customer service.
