iPod Touch freezing during restore

I have a 16GB iPod Touch 2nd generation and I am trying to install OS 4.0 and it's been an absolute nightmare. I downloaded the new software (which took quite a while since it kept giving me an error which made me restart the download like 4 times).

So now I'm in the process of actually INSTALLING that software. When I plug my iPod Touch into iTunes it says it sees the iPod is in recovery mode and asks me to restore my ipod (the only option it is allowing me to access is the "Restore" button, so all the "Update" errors are out of the question here).

When I "restore" my iPod however, the process get's about 1/4 of the way through before it freezes and the progress indicator on my iPod AND the progress indicator in iTunes stays at the same place and doesn't move. Even after letting it sit ALL night last night (about 8 hours) it STILL hadn't moved when I woke up this morning.

Any suggestions on how I could fix this?

Same problem with my iPod touch 3rd Gen 32GB, I have tried to restore 20+ times. I've tried restoring on my friend's Macbook, and another friend's PC, with no luck. I've also tried every single solution posted on this discussion, and none of them work. The restoring iPod bar gets to about 95% ad stops. Please help me, as I have been iPodless since the iOS4 has come out.

Hi I'm currently in the same boat with all these issues. I have a 2nd gen 8gb itouch. Ive tried everything, even the creating of the the new account and logging in and out. When logging into the new account it pops up saying that the ipod is in recovery mode and then gives only an option to update and restore. I cannot choose to just restore. So I am basically being stuck at the 45/50 % every single time. Does it sound like i'm doing something wrong? Ive read and reread many of the posts in this thread and I am following the steps. I dont understand how it is working for most of you but I am having 0 results or progress. Any suggestions?
