Camera NOT working...HELP?

My camera on my iphone 4 is not working at ALL. I click to open it and it shows the lenses as if it isn't opening. Is this happening to anyone else? Is there anything I can do to fix it?

You were lucky if they replaced your iphone at the store- I made an appointment at an Apple store and they said- Wow- never seen that before. Ran some diagnostics, said they had never seen a camera malfunction like mine was, it was not a software issue, and told me to go call Apple.

Seriously??? I am in an Apple store and they tell me to leave and call Apple? I don't get that.

This malfunction is my first ****** off moment with Apple. I called "Apple" and when they talk to me after 15 minutes, say just a moment when I described my problem, and REPEATEDLY with any warning, put me back on hold......again....and again....and again. All they seemed interested in was upgrading my service plan which does not roll to a new phone (I made the "mistake" of saying I want to upgrade to the 4S when AT&T will let me in 50 days). My limited warranty expires in 50 days too- which may be a problem as I cannot figure out the Apple service beauracracy.

I have an iphone 4 S. After working fine for several months, the back camera (not the forward facing facetime camera which works just fine) developed an image of what looks like an old piece of paper (ancient parchment yellow). All buttons work and it will take a picture of this "paper" and you can even see changes in the light intensity. However, you can't see anything but yellowed paper. I have restored the phone, restarted it several times, made sure the OS was updated (it is), and took it for diagnostics at an Apple store as described above. The shutter is not stuck. I appears to have an image emblazoned on the camera iris or something.

Anybody else had this problem? Anybody know how to get anywhere with Apple service and repair?

Thanks.

I had the same problem, and it happened within the first 2 weeks of purchasing the ipod. I had tried everything, including resetting it, restoring it, putting the app on the second homescreen, and trying other camera apps. Nothing worked. What I did was fill out a service request form on this website, and since it doesn't actually have anything for the camera, I submitted it under blank black screen and wrote about the camera problem in the notes area.
I sent it out UPS (you won't have to pay, UPS knows the address and procedure well) on a Saturday, and got a brand new one sent to me and in my hands by Wednesday.
If you send yours out, you'll want to back up all your apps and music etc on your computer before sending it, you will not get the same ipod back.

But it was quick and worth it.

I really hope this helps =]

Oh, and everything is free if you have had the ipod for under a year. so, its a pretty awesome deal.

My company just gave me the 4S phone and try using the camera after I installed Skype. Then the same issue happen on this discussion. The phone camera froze on the shutter screen, cannot try switching between video and camera did not work. Try doing a full-power shutdown, holding the power-lock button for five seconds, slide to power off. This did not work.

Then, the only 3rd party application that I installed on the phone was Skype. After installing Skype, I was testing the video camera with my friends. Seems to work fine from Skype. However, after about a two day of use and decide to use the camera. The camera just shows the shutter screen and cannot get the screen off.

On my case, it was definitely a software issue.

So my action was to remove Skype, did a full-power down. Then the camera is working again. My suggestion is that any 3rd application that you install, try to test the default applications and make sure it is working.

My iphone4 camera also quit working 2 or 3 days ago. I tried using the purchased camera apps and they do not work either. They either shut off, go to my photos or just show a black screen or lens. By clicking or tapping the shutter to take a picture also shuts the app down... all of them. I've tried to reinstall, and have done everything suggested in the posts and nothing has resolved this problem.

Last week I did a self replacement of my iphone 4 which had a cracked screen.

After reassembly everything worked except the camera. I did a disassembly to check that I had everything in the correct place but still the camera did not work upon reassembly.

Yesterday while in the message window sending a text, I hit the camera button in the message window by accident to attach a picture to my mesage and the camera worked perfect, both the camera and the video, but it is the only way the camera works and that is from the message window and not from the camera app.
