Camera NOT working...HELP?

I've had my iPhone 4S for 2 months now, and the camera worked for two days and then stopped working. I haven't taken my camera back to the apple store yet so have been just trying everything I can to make it work. I looked at some YouTube videos and one trick seems to "wake up" at least the front camera (facing the user). The trick is to use a flashlight app - I have iHandy. But I've not been able to get the other camera to work at all. I'm waiting for my next trip to HK to get it replaced since the phone is a HK model. BTW, since upgrading to 5.1, the Message app has been crashing like mad, while I'm still typing the message:-(((

Okay double click your menu button and close down the applications. Like any gadget it has a freeze/melt down moment. Leave it for a minute then try again. Should work ;D

Glad to hear the suggestion about restrictions is helping some of us. Unfortunately, while a sensible suggestion, it didn't help me either. Nor did other suggestions in this string.

To others with other solutions: Thanks in advance for any forthcoming suggestions... For now, I've given up on trying to divine one.

I'm having the same problem right now. It's only my front camera though, I've tried resetting it & turning it off, killed all my apps & nothing is working.

As the original poster, after trying every suggestion listed here and still not having any luck, I download another camera app and that worked.

The app is call Camera by Smugmug. You call still save the pictures from the camera app to your camera roll.

Another thing I found out was that I can even though my camera does not work as normal, I can take a pict/video with my original camera by using the message app. Strange!

There are a few different camera apps online that will work. Some are basic cameras and some have extra features. It all depends on what you want to do.

I downloaded the app you suggested, the front camera still isn't working..

Hmmm...that is strange. Does the back camera work/

Also have you tried taking a pict from the message window?

I just did, it's not working. The back camera works perfectly fine. The flash, video, panorama, and HDR all work fine. Also, I tried my flashlight app as well and that is working fine. I didn't drop my phone at all, I take pretty good care of it. It just stopped working out of nowhere.

Wow! Sorry I can not offer any other suggestions except taking it to the Apple store for the pros to have a look at it.

Hope it works out for you as I know firsthand how frustrated that can be.
