FedEx mailed me an empty box..

I was able to pre-order my iPhone 4 on day one and waited for it to arrive today. After signing for my package I walked into my house and realized the tape was broken on the box and nothing was inside the package. The FedEx was already long gone. I called Apple and they told me they would contact me back in 24 hours by email. I made sure the lady made a note that said I wanted them to call me.

She said they will probably mail me another iPhone but has no idea when. I was beyond ******. I asked if she can reserve me a phone in any store and I would pick it up tomorrow and she said that isn't possible.

It has been many hours and no one has contacted me. I also called FedEx and let them know about my problem. They promised to call the driver of the truck and the station he picked the package up from to locate my iPhone. They said they would call me back before the end of the day. It is now 9pm and no call.

I'm not exactly sure what to do. I can't believe I was delivered an opened package and the FedEx guy said nothing when handing it to me. I assume I'll have to wait till mid next month before they actually ship me one. Sigh.

In instances where FedEx & UPS won't deliver to a residential address (rural routes, isolated areas), they hand of packages to USPS to be delivered to the end consumer, or held for pickup at the local post office location.

Having lived in locations where this is the case, I can tell you for a fact, that USPS would deliver an iPhone in such a situation. As to it being delivered on Launch day... not likely.

Just an update:

So five days later and after 5 calls to apple support (they said customer support and relations was the same), 2 calls to AT&T to shut down the stolen phone, 3 calls to FedEx (least helpful of the bunch by far), and one visit to my local police dept to file a stolen property report and investigation (they were very helpful).

Apple has still not called me back after 5 days to set up a new phone shipment, even though every day I call they say they will be calling back next day. They have said this is quite a crazy situation but I have more evidence/information than they usually get.

I am told the order fulfillment dept will be calling me today to arrange the new shipment.

I sure hope so!

I just got off the phone with an Apple support supervisor and she told me they are still running the investigation and will be calling me in the next few days as soon as more info comes to them. They did contact my local police dept and got the report. My best guess is they are all really waiting on FedEx to clear with them the fact that their driver stole the item and will file for the insurance etc.

beekong - I really hope you dont have to wait 3 weeks for your replacement, as that also would mean I will have to wait 3 weeks! After already being told I would be expedited a new phone within a week, that would be terribly heartbreaking.

This is beyond the 3rd strike for FedEx and me. No way I will be putting my trust in that company again!

my friend who works at fedex said that they might lose their contract with apple because a lot of iphones were getting "lost", i prefer "stolen". my other friend was an accomplice to stolen iphones 3gs' and blackberry's a year ago from fedex. obviously i dont kick it with him anymore because i was gonna report him and his friend who was the one actually stealing them from fedex when they were scanning them in. this is why im not ordering mine online, i heard they're going to be shipped fedex, and this guy hasn't been caught yet. anyways, i hope all of you get your cases resolved and your iphones soon. best of luck to you guys!

Anyone NOT receive the phone at all? Mine still shows "on Fedex vehicle for delivery" since 06/23. FEDEX is absolutely no help at all. All they say is that "its lost and you have to call Apple. Well I called Apple everyday for 6 days and get a different answer each time. On the 24th, I was told that they had to wait 3 business days and would check with FEDEX. I called later that day and a "manager" told me they would expedite it. I am not sure what that means. Today, 6 days later, I was told by Apple that FEDEX had not replied to their inquiry and another manager was goingto "expedite" it again. She also promised to call by 5PM Pacific time. Lets see. Meanwhile no new iPhone, or old 3GS since I sold it.
