Issue with Proximity Sensor during calls

I'm having an issue with the Proximity Sensor not properly detecting when i'm holding my phone to my ear. I can confirm that the iPhone sensor is working by covering it with my finger, but when held to my face, the screen blinks as if it cannot decide to disable the screen or enable it. It results on me hanging up, putting calls on mute, and dialing numbers accidentally while i'm on the phone. This occurs on 90% of my calls. Is anyone else experiencing this issue. I would like to confirm whether this is a software issue (Proximity Sensor sensitivity too low) or a design issue (sensor now placed towards the end of the phone).

Matthew,
We are not stupid! Many of us have had iphones since they first surfaced and know exactly how they work as they do not change much each time a new one comes out. Stop b.s.ing us and work on a fix! Maybe you should try putting the phone on your shoulder for a day and see how many times you find yourself calling other contacts or hanging up on people!

I have sent it for third time know.
Did not get any reply first two times and dont expect to get one know, but at least i told them " if there is no magical fix in next two days my iphone 4 is going back to att for refund"

Got mine on june 23 been having issue from begining, exchange it on july 4 and that one seemed to be fine till couple days ago same things ( all mentioned here about proximity sensor) started to happen again.
No fix and return window is closing on us. More than likely in about a week there is going to be camping in front the Apple stores this time for returns.

This page has jumped 50 pages since my last post! I returned the iphone 4 and reactivated my iphone 3. The staff at the Apple store were very helpful in assisting me and gave me no grief. They refunded my the cost of the $29 bumper which I did not have packaging for and shipped off the iphone 4 to the online return center (as they could not simply refund me since I didn't buy it from a store). I was credited the entire cost of my purchase! Such a shame. Will have to wait to see if they fix or redesign the phone.

Thanks for mentioning this, I am certainly not one to bash apple! in fact I have never before! To be honest I am not experiencing problems with the antenna or reception, but I am having problems with the proximity sensor on the iphone4. I have used a 3G iphone for the past two years and got on great with it, hence I was beginning to think it was something I was doing wrong.

So much so I have resorted to only making calls with the headphones supplied! Anyone know if apple have now acknowledge this one and if a fix is due?
