Issue with Proximity Sensor during calls

I'm having an issue with the Proximity Sensor not properly detecting when i'm holding my phone to my ear. I can confirm that the iPhone sensor is working by covering it with my finger, but when held to my face, the screen blinks as if it cannot decide to disable the screen or enable it. It results on me hanging up, putting calls on mute, and dialing numbers accidentally while i'm on the phone. This occurs on 90% of my calls. Is anyone else experiencing this issue. I would like to confirm whether this is a software issue (Proximity Sensor sensitivity too low) or a design issue (sensor now placed towards the end of the phone).

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

Im glad I found this post because I though it was just something wrong with my ears...but it is true i had the original iphone, iphone 3g and now the iphone 4 and this is the only one that is causing this problem of me hanging up on important calls and having to explain to people that i didnt mean to hang up and that my expensice iphone isnt working properly.

Apple PLEASE release a software update ASAP

Yeah, saw that mentioned but couldn't find it in the many pages of this thread.

So, if it resets itself then what to do? I suppose even what I mentioned, the Home button "fix" wouldn't work either as you'd be opening apps, etc...but at least most of those would likely not interfere with the phone call?

This is really disappointing. Damnit, otherwise I am just blown over by this phone but it MUST BE ABLE TO MAKE A TELEPHONE CALL or my wife will kill me for forcing my old 3GS onto her so I could buy this one (now I want "hers"!)

The display is nice and crisp on the Iphone, which doesn't mean anything since it has less than 4 inches of space. Kinda pointless isn't it? The naked eye cannot easily tell the difference.

User Interface! Ah! Well, I can download pron on the phone and it is open source. Everything open source is always better than a closed environment. It allows anyone to make and post their creations. We have a rating system to tell us what is good and what suks.

And crapple censors the pron word and the suks word. Nazism.

Calm down rsage. I've been following this thread since day 1. I thought for sure by the time we got to 100,000 views we would have some kind of response from Apple. Now we are at what, 180,000? still nothing...You think one post not complaining specifically about the prox sensor is going to make a difference?

I asked him how he liked the Evo, not to start a comparison between android and i"POS". Which i might add is totally relevant to the thread, because if apple doesn't fix the proximity sensor before my 30 days are up, then that is the phone I am going to be using.

Please start a new thread to discuss android vs iOS, I beg of you. This thread is for one specific issue - proximity sensor on iPhone 4.

To make things worse with my proximity sensor I think I am going to have to use duct tape to fix my reception issue.

Wonder if apple will delete this one too.
