Issue with Proximity Sensor during calls

I'm having an issue with the Proximity Sensor not properly detecting when i'm holding my phone to my ear. I can confirm that the iPhone sensor is working by covering it with my finger, but when held to my face, the screen blinks as if it cannot decide to disable the screen or enable it. It results on me hanging up, putting calls on mute, and dialing numbers accidentally while i'm on the phone. This occurs on 90% of my calls. Is anyone else experiencing this issue. I would like to confirm whether this is a software issue (Proximity Sensor sensitivity too low) or a design issue (sensor now placed towards the end of the phone).

When I upgraded my 3GS (32GB) to iOS4 last week I had a few 'face dialing' instances (where I'd never had them before). Yesterday, when I got my iPhone 4 (32GB), it worked flawlessly. This afternoon, I started getting 3G problems, random 'face dialing' (once it put me into voice mail, once called someone in the R's in my contact list, once hung up while I was on the line). I am holding this phone no differently that I held the first iPhone, iPhone 3G, and iPhone 3GS. They better be burning the midnight oil on the campus getting this right. It was one thing when they couldn't (and still can't) get Outlook syncs to iPhone and multiple PCs correct, but when the phone functions don't work Apple is risking everything...I'm looking earnestly at other smart phones now, and if this is 'fixed' before the 30 days I'm returning it as defective.

Well take it again and keep taking it back till the issue resolves 😀 We all are facing the same issue and looks like apple customer care doesn't really care about customer cause i went to the store and there So called Genius people swipe there fingers and try to argue that the proximity sensor works the way it should be only one question to you genius bar people do you really think we stick a finger by our ear when we call ? Common its when the sensor i think goes on top of the ear canal then it starts acting up and also its slow it doesn't shut off the screen rite away it has a delay and looks like APPLE doesn't want to admit there fault that these things are really full of flaws

Wow I actually think this is a bigger problem then the antenna issue,
at least wit that just hold the phone differently, but with this issue, hard to hold the phone against your ear without something happening.
Have anyone notice since iphone 4 started shipping apple stock has taken a nose dive!!
BTW.
I tried doing a complete restore and this did not help.

Seriously, some sort of public acknowledgment that there actually is a problem here would be nice... The radio silence on such a wide-spread bug (or terribly stupid intentional change) is not reassuring. At this point, I'd be happy with a "hey, we know about it and are working on it."

Of course, if they really don't think there actually is a problem then we are really screwed.
