No Audio on video recordings and no audio during facetime

So my wife got her iPhone 4 today. All works well except the video recordings have no audio and facetime doesn't seem to transmit audio. All else seems to work. Any ideas?

My problem was exactly the same! My mother couldn't hear-me on FaceTime and zero sound on recorded videos.

My noise-cancelling mic on the top of the phone was covered with a sticker, something like the invisible shield but there was no hole for the mic. If you are having the same problem remove any protector or case or bumper and see if the mic hole next to the headphone hole isn't covered with something.

If the problems remains, most certainly you have a defective noise-cancelling mic.

When I plug the headphones in, the mic works in FaceTime and during video recording otherwise I have no audio. I recently bought some Bose earbuds and started listen to my music via the headphones. Shortly after, I lost audio which made me link the two together. It's got something to do with the headphone jack.

Hey guys!

So I thought that I was also having this exact problem, and then I actually found a minor bug in the iPhone's user experience, and was able to fix the problem moving forward. The problem is this: If you have multiple outputs on your wifi network, like speakers plugged into your airport express, then the ability to switch between outputs is only available through Music, iTunes, YouTube and the Safari Media Player. If you are viewing VIDEOS in your 'Photos' grid, the option to change outputs is NOT HERE. I believe this is a bug, as it's really stupid to not be able to choose your output method when viewing your own videos... So - to fix the problem, you go into Music/iPod and choose your iphone's speaker as your audio output. Then go back to your 'photos' section, and videos that you've shot should now be playing through the device...

I was ready to take my phone in, but realized I had been listenign to music over the network earlier in the day. This is a huge bug and Apple should probably fix this soon...

Hope this helps!

Seb

Okay so i just got an iphone 4s for christmas and recently ran into this problem. My speakers worked fine for recording through the audio recorder, and it worked fine while talking on the phone, but i could not record video without static. Someone up above me said it and it worked. Clean out the mic input by the headphone jack. I blew fairly hard on mine and bam. it worked. so thanks to whoever said the idea. I appreciate it. Other people suggest cleaning it with a pin, but thats risky bc you dont want to damage the mic.

Same problem talking to mom overseas.. ughh very frustrating!. Everything works ok for a couple of minutes and then it goes away, but the issue is mostly on my end. She can hear me. our setup:

Me: MacMini with a Microsoft camera

Her: MacBookAir

My workaround so far is, when she complains about sound or I starting hearing she nis cutting off, in my end I lick on FaceTime main menu "Video" and reselect under Microphone "Microsoft HDviewer... (whatever camera was recognized")

This seems to solve my problem temporarily since I have to keep doing this quite often. Still, there are some times, she hears me but very faint, then we have to call eachother again.

I hope this helps someone there

What? Are you serious? How does this solution help with the iPhone? This sounds like a computer issue to me and easily solved by fixing the output. But on the iPhone it is what it is - no sound. And none when I play the video in Movist on my laptop.

It seems to me that the noise cancelling mic is faulty. I've tried the pin in the hole method. I've tried turning up the volume on all of my game apps. I've tried turning off vibrate. None of these work.

My phone works fine for talking on the phone and recording my voice in apps like Dragon Dictation and All In Notes. But it doesn't work in ANY of the video recording apps I have (and I have half a dozen).

I can't use speaker phone or face time either because they can't hear me.

My iphone is way past the year warrenty so I am out of luck. It sv¢ks for me.

Hi all,

I’m from Jordan. I got my Iphone4 (16GB) from ZAIN months ago and it’s still under warrantee.

While using the iphone I discovered by chance two problems:

  • No audio recording when shooting a video.
  • The speakerphone isn't working on phone calls: when I make a call and turn the speakerphone on no one COULD hear me, but when I turn the speakerphone off, they can hear me just fine.

I travel a lot and I was really busy to check the problem with the ZAIN Company right after discovering the problem, but anyway, I managed to finally go to (ZAIN) to explain the problem. And here is what happened:

They got my Iphone on the 16th of June2012 and until now they didn’t fix it or replace it yet:

1st week they said it’s software problem and they will fix it in 3 days.

2nd week they said it’s fixed so I went to get it and while checking it at the store I found that the problem is not fixed yet.

3rd week they said it’s hardware issue, so they need to contact Apple store, to see how to fix this problem and the response from Apple store assured that it cannot be replaced and it’s liquid drops (which I dropped ! ) caused the problem.

They also installed a new software and didn’t fix the problem and today they offered me to either get the defect iphone back without fixing it (cause after 3 weeks they discovered they cannot fix it) , or to I pay around $250 to get a new iphone!!

I have no idea what kind of customer service they have here (knowing that I’m VIP customer too) and I don’t know what kind of maintenance department they have as well as doubting they contacted apple department at the first place!

Any idea on how to deal with this problem? All of my family members & friends have iphones and they all work well except mine. I need my iphone .. I need an iphone that works well just like the others.

Please help.

I hope everyone can see this link.

Please help me out here. I have tried blowing into the microphone next to the headphone jack, I have used a needle to clean it out, yet it still records only static. 😠 How will I ever get my iPhone to work? I can't record video sound. I can get audio when I record video with Apple earbuds on, but when I just record with the LifeProof case, it doesn't work at all. I just get static. It works with the Voice Memo app that comes with the phone but using the Camera app to record video I get nada. I backed up my phone to my MacBook Pro, erased all data, restored as new --- no luck still. I am about to go into the Apple Store and get a new one but I don't want to do that if I can avoid it by getting some assistance here. It is really aggravating. My brother has the same LifeProof case, but he is able to record sound no problem.... what is going on here?????

I'm having the same problem--I can talk on the phone fine and listen to music, video, etc., but if I try to talk on speakerphone or record video, there is no sound. I've tried restarting it and cleaning out the microphone on top as suggested, but neither worked. This is really frustrating that it appears that people have been having this exact problem for two years and it hasn't been resolved.
