No Audio on video recordings and no audio during facetime

So my wife got her iPhone 4 today. All works well except the video recordings have no audio and facetime doesn't seem to transmit audio. All else seems to work. Any ideas?

I found if I shout really loud into the noise-cancelling mic on the top of the phone you can just about hear it on playback. Shout into the normal mic on the bottom and you don't hear anything at all. There are quite clear sounds, though, of me moving the phone around in my hand so it does seem o be picking up sounds from the body of the phone, just not through the two microphones.

I spoke to Apple Support this morning and we did the usual Reset and Restore as new iPhone but it didn't solve the problem.

The person on the phone hadn't heard of this and said it sounded like a hardware problem.

They made an appointment for me at my local Apple Store where they said they will quickly check it out and replace it if necessary.

My problem is little bit different.
My video recording does work.

When I try to set up a face time call it says: face time connection couldn't establish and disconnects (something like it). When my friend starts face time it works but I can't hear him. He can hear me.

Anyone else noticed the problem with face time disconnects?

Call 1-888-FACETIME and troubleshoot the issue with them.... I had an audio dropout on Facetime the first time I used it... they immediately put me through to a tech who asked me to reset the phone (and hold he buttons down for a minimum of 10 seconds no matter what I aw on the screen) and then called me back via FaceTime... the problem disappeared and has not reappeared... I don't know if I had a video recording audio issue as well, as the problem was fixed before I tested the video.

I had the same problem with video. Haven't tried to see if the problem occurs with Facetime. After much trial and error, one change to settings fixed the problem. I think it is obscure, but here it is. Go into Settings. Under Silent, turn vibrate off. That's it. Sound is now recorded with video and plays back as it should.

I obtained my new Iphone4 six days ago. I, too, had no audio when recording video. All other audio functions work. Based on comments in this and other threads, I made an appointment with Apple to replace the phone.

But guess what? I complained to a friend who is VERY into Apple products. He said show me. As I recorded a video in his presence, he reached over and hit the volume control (plus) button on the phone. THAT WAS THE FIX! Unbeknownst to me, I had the volume turned down almost to the lowest setting.

I hope this is your solution, too.

The mic on my iPhone4 has just quit also. Similar symptoms to yours in that people I'm talking to hear only static or my voice very faintly. The voice/memo recorder also only really records static.

It happened suddenly and seemed to get better after a day or two but then went completely after another day.

I'm returning it to Vodafone New Zealand shortly but will have to wait 5-10 days for a replacement. There are NO Apple accredited means to speed this procedure up in NZ.

We don't even have a single physical Apple Store where you could walk in and talk to a Genius.
