No Audio on video recordings and no audio during facetime

So my wife got her iPhone 4 today. All works well except the video recordings have no audio and facetime doesn't seem to transmit audio. All else seems to work. Any ideas?

I guess that is the same across the board. I had the option of mail or store and I'm opting for store on Monday. Hopefully by then they will have some in stock but a call to the store will be made before stepping out the door.

I guess they won't be able to identify the batch until after they get a slew of them back. Mine came from a center in Dallas, TX via AT&T and my friends was from the Apple Store in SOHO.

I will be bringing my laptop in with me so I can restore everything in the store and make sure it works before I leave the place.

Hello
me I have just received my iphone 4 16go and I have the same problem as you i.e.:
- when I make a video: no the sound, as if the microphone did not start!
- when I make a video with the official ear-phone: its walk!

For still more I had another idea, after having tested with ear-phone, etc as I indicated above, I tested to take a video using an other application (iVidCamFree) and his walk, his walk perfectly.

With my opinion it is a problem of line of code, i.e. that the microphone is not activated when one launches a video with the application official of APPLE! Remain more than with APPLE to solve us problem (with an update preferably)!

I thus decided contacted APPLE assistance this morning!
I advised one and then a superior, they have well included/understood and seen that its for nothing envoy my iphone at APPLE in maintenance was not used, therefore they decided to take contacts directly towards the engineer of APPLE in their giving my file!

Of course I am specified to them that I was not alone in case!
It is for its that it raises question (they think that its comes from the software like I says them with the top, therefore requires an update) they will contact me by telephone in can of time.

I keep you informed as soon as I have news!

So from what little scouring I've done on the net, it looks like it is an actual hardware issue (could be wrong... but evidence is pointing to it). Apparently, things like FaceTime, Video recording, and when you use speaker phone all use one mic, while apps like the Voice Memo and other voice based apps use a different mic. So the mic that FaceTime, video recording and speaker phone use is busted and you just hear mostly static or perhaps a little noise if your mic is able to hear it. This is only what I could gleam though off of sites, so this may be completely inaccurate.

I'm heading into the Apple store today to verify there is nothing they can do from their end and then getting it replaced if they are not able to fix it. Everything else is working perfectly. And this problem persists no matter if you restore to factory settings, completely restore in ITunes, or even just restart the phone.

After reading this thread I decided to test the audio on my new iPhone 4 with video recording. I had tested most other things yesterday (including the video camera, but no speaking). I got the same results as several of you. Only static.

Since someone else on this thread mentioned that their speakerphone wasn't working on phone calls, I made a call, turned the speakerphone on and confirmed that they COULD hear me just fine. I then turned the speakerphone off and chatted a few seconds more.

At that point I went to show my husband (who is now using my handed down 3G) that my video wasn't functioning properly. And I recorded a video and played it back to show him and the audio worked just fine! I've done several recordings since and they all work fine.

So, I have no idea if simply turning the speakerphone on and off during a phone call did the trick or what. But I thought I would post it since mine is working fine now.

I'm glad too...my new phone seems perfect!
