iPhone 4 will not turn on

The title says it all. I opened the box. I plugged it into my MacBook. Nothing. I pressed the buttons, held the buttons, tried a different cable, connected it to the charger and waited an hour...

nothing.

Anyone know anything that can make a good iPhone refuse to turn on, or did I get a bad one?

I have Iphone 4 which keeps turning off and staying off randomly then starts if and when it wants to. I have tried all combinations of fixes on here nothing works. This was a replacement from apple for another faulty phone which had a dodgy speaker. In New Zealand we have to send iphone away for a week to get looked at and if replaced they give us a refurbished phone, not a new one. So i am going to have to buy another phone to use in the week I will have waiting for another used refurbished phone. Not a good experience at all for a $1300 phone.

I turned it off last night and when, after about 2 hours , i tried to turn it of and guess what... D-e-a-d!!!

as a previous owner of iPhone ,3G and 3Gs tried hard reset for almost 2 mins but nothing happend. The Apple logo appeared only when i tried hard reset while the phone was connected to my computer but nothing else happens. it just wont turn on and i try restore an error message will just pop up and nothing will happen.

Anyone else had something like that?

Hi I have a solution, just remove the back casing on the iPhone but undoing the two bottom screws and unplug the battery for five minutes, its very easy and usually will work, when the five minutes are up just plug it back in but don't put the case back on yet, if when you press the power button , it boots the ok re assemble, however if it does not, unplug the battery for 2 minutes then plug it in and put the phone on charge, do not try to turn it on until its been charging for atleast 30 minutes. If you are lucky it will turn itself on.

well my iPhone 4 is only a few months old and I have recently updated to iOS 5. Just experienced this sudden death of iPhone this afternoon and my heart sank! Googled the problem and I'm somewhat relieved to know this problem is not specific to my phone alone.

And thanks to the poster, the hard reset thing worked. Still, there will linger a nagging in my head when this problem will be back and whether it will revive back at all or not. 😕

Hey there Bud ^__^

I dont know if your tech savvy or not, but im one of those ppl that fixes his own things and like..
i bought an iPhone 4 for $150 cause the home screen button doesnt work (person before me physically smashed it on a table numerous times and damaged the logic board)
Anyway
every now and then, mine does the same thing, i'll be listening to music and ill pause it to go into a shop or something, when i leave like, 10 minutes later, it does nothing like an overpriced paperweight..
I love Apple and iOS devices way to much to give up, haha one day i took the back off it again, disconnected the battery for a minute or so, re-connected it and it works again haha
it basically reset the logic board to new again, if you, or anyone else, is confident you could try that?
I dont know if it voids the warranty cause i never had one to worry about..
check it out if your concerned
Good uck =D

When my Iphone 4 would not turn on I just did the Hard Reset and it is working now. I thought that the Hard Reset was pressing the sleep/wake button only but, I learned that it requires pressing the sleep/wake & the home button for ten seconds simultaneously.

Thank you for this, because I was already set to go and have my Iphone 4 fixed in the store but now I do not have to do it because it is now working well!
