iPhone microphone not working

My new iPhone's microphone doesn't seem to be working properly. I can hear people who call but they can't hear me unless I switch to speaker mode.

Without speaker mode, I can only be heard if I shout VERY loudly. I've tried calling a few different people and the result is the same.

Any thoughts?

Yep, same exact problem. I phone is approx 18mo old, and only works when on speaker phone. My case doesn't block any of the ports and there isn't any water damage. The closest Apple store is 2.5hrs away, and taking time off work to get a phone fixed isn't an option.

I'm also guessing an 18mo old iPhone is out of warranty, if I've come to learn anything about how mobile phone manufacturers make their moeny..

I have 6s that was experiencing problems with the mic like your phone. Could only make calls on speaker, voice memos not recording anything but white noise. Turns out there was clay in my mic. I thought that that wasn't the culprit because only the middle of the 5 holes in the mic was full of clay but apparently that's all that it needs.

If you want to know why there was clay in my mic, art school.
