Since I activated my new phone last night, it will periodically not wake up from being locked. When I try to wake the phone up from sleep mode, I hit the home button/lock button and nothing happens. Only a hard reset seems to fix the issue, and only temporarily; it happens again 30 minutes to an hour later.
I synced the new phone from my 3G backup. I'm thinking a full restore may help -- any other ideas?
I am having the same issue. I also synced from my 3g backup. I tried a full restore and it did not help. I have already called apple for a replacement iphone4. Who knows how long that will take.
Same thing happened to me today. Very bizarre. I'm going to keep an eye on it and see if it does it anymore and if so, I'll be headed to the Apple store.
I'm experiencing the same iPhone 4 "coma" - this seems to be somewhat wide spread based on the number of posts I've seen. It's happened to my handheld 4 or 5 times since this morning. I'm going to try the fresh restoration approach since I migrated from a 3G and some legacy junk may be hosing up the 4. It would be nice to see an acknowledgment from Apple on this problem along with a remediation plan.
I can confirm the same issue happening to me as well. I restored from a 3G backup, I'll attempt the full default restore, and then sync and see where that gets me.
I kind of had this problem this morning. I picked up my reserved phone at 7am. It activated and seemed to be working fine. I went out for breakfast and was playing with the phone while waiting for my food..still seemed to be working fine. I set the phone aside while I ate. When I picked it up and tried to turn it on...I got nothing. I tried the sleep/wake button, I tried the home button..I even attempted a hard reset..and still nothing. Thinking maybe the battery had some how died, I took the phone out to my car and plugged in the charger. Still nothing. My phone was dead. I went right back to Apple (lucky I was only a mile from the mall) and they couldn't get the phone to wake up or start back up either. They eventually swapped it out and gave me a brand new phone.
Picked up an iPhone 4 this morning at the SoHo store... Ran into the same issue immediately. I didn't do any sort of software restore, just mobile me sync. Just throwing in a "me too" and hoping someone finds something out.
I had it happen to me for the first time earlier this evening. I setup the iPhone as a new phone. I'm just going to keep an eye on it and see if it happens again...
I first restored my setting from iphone 3 and this happened every time when my iphone went to the "locked" mode. I talked to apple technical support, they asked me to restore the system to the default setting, still same thing. This totally destroyed my excitement for the new phone.
I having a opposite problem mines wont STOP waking up hahaha you set it down and it wakes up ever 30 seconds. whats odd is it doesnt wake up with its plugged in... what ever the case it I want a replacement and I want to see it working before I leave the store or I want my money back.
I've had this problem several times today with my iPhone 4.
Hard reset always wakes it up.
When it's in a coma, i tried calling my iPhone 4 to see if AT&T thinks it's still on the network. I get 4 rings and then voicemail as if I just didn't pick up the call - but nothing on the iPhone 4 (no rings, nothing on the screen - comatose).
When I was out and about today, it don't have the problem. When I came home again, the problem recurred. I suspect it may have something to do with being on connected to my home WiFi network (no WiFi when I was out and about).
Tried turning off WiFi on iPhone 4 when I was at home - no problem after several hours. Now I've turned WiFi back on to see if it goes comatose again.
I'm having a similar problem, my phone seems to shut off about every 5 minutes. At first I sync'd my apps but now its setup with nothing at all being sync'd. In watching this happen, im noticing that i'm getting something very similar to a kernel panic on a mac, where you see the dreaded gray curtain go down the screen then you get the error, except here, my screen goes black when the gray curtain goes down.. This is horrible as this new phone is absolutely gorgeous =(
I am having the same issues....its happened about 1/2 dozen times today, while I was at my office. I did set up the new phone as a backup of my 3Gs, so when I get home to my main computer I will try a fresh install and see if that fixes the issues.
Just wanted to update with a little more info - My phone's issue seems to be a lighter sleep than the comas - I thought I was able to wake it after repeated attempts, but more careful testing reveals that it will always wake, albeit, sometimes after a 15 or 20 second delay. Will try turning off WiFi / a system restore and see if it helps.
Same issue here, but the phone had entered it's "coma" between the in-store activation and me plugging it into my home computer for a 3GS restore (hadn't even touched it in the meantime). It has dumped into recovery mode six times already this morning, requiring a hard restart each time. Fully restoring the software didn't seem to help.
