Signal issues? You're holding the phone wrong.

In case the Apple support forums are your first stop on your search for why your signal is dropping when you hold your phone, Steve Jobs and Apple consider it a "non issue" and to "avoid holding in that way".

"Gripping any phone will result in some attenuation of its antenna performance, with certain places being worse than others depending on the placement of the antennas. This is a fact of life for every wireless phone. If you ever experience this on your iPhone 4, avoid gripping it in the lower left corner in a way that covers both sides of the black strip in the metal band, or simply use one of many available cases."

So I did the bars up and down thing today. Started with 5 bars, it goes down to 1, and then back up to 5 if I hold it by the bottom. I bought a $16 case at best buy and it prevents this. I also had a long phone call with my mom today (30 mins) and the entire time the phone said 1 bar. I asked her at the end if I ever cut out or if she couldn't hear me and she said it was much better with this phone than my 3gs and she could hear me fine the entire conversation.

I am quite happy. As long as those bars = service.. eh!

I'm a big fan of apple but this is beyond ridiculous. For those who keep saying to use scotch tape or buy a case... THATS NOT THE POINT! The consumer who just purchased a phone for $200-$500 should not have to buy a additional product such as a case "which is primary used to protect the phone not help with antenna problems". It's a huge hardware problem that needs to be fixed but i have a feeling that we wont be seeing a massive recall. Prove me wrong apple.

Apple is now going to change the way people hold their phones. or it might just be a ploy to sell $2 bumpers for $29.

Its been only 2 hours since I bought my phone and have dropped 2 calls, missed 2 calls and couldn't make calls 3 times.

Will wait for a day or two to see how this plays out, after that I am returning the phone.

May be they will issue free bumpers to everyone but why should I be forced to ruin a beautiful device by putting an ugly bumper on it.
