I wish that I had read this forum yesterday, before I upgraded my Iphone and lost all of my appointments and important deadlines, etc. I wish that Apple would warn their users that they have this problem. I thought that these guys were more professional than this issue shows. Now I am tasked with spending hours trying to recreate my calendar.
Thanks Apple!

Exact same thing happened to me last night. COnnected iPhone and agreed to perform the updade to iTunes and the iPhone OS upgrade, and lost all of my calendar entries. The backup was automatically performed only AFTER the upgrades were complete, therefore the restore I tried was pointless.

That will teach me in future not to rely completely on my iPhone - all meetings, events, birthdays etc lost! Very annoyed with Apple for not even acknowledging this issue.

Same thing just happened to me... Lost all events prior to July 18 for some darn reason. Yeah I am ****** because this is my scheduler for all my work and now I have lost a lot of history.

What did I do. Well I waited a bit and did the iOS 4.1 upgrade but maybe not long enough. I have been putting up with screwed up voicemail ever since updating to iOS 4.0. After the 4.1 upgrade I was no longer able to sync with iTunes for some reason. It said I had to upgrade iTunes to 9.2 or later.

I went ahead and upgraded to iTunes 10.0 and did the sync to my MacPro and heyyyyyy! Lost most of my calendar entries. This is just so professional....

The best part is I will probably have to pay for a service call to have Apple fix what they screwed up...

Same here, all software "upgraded" to most recent versions.

After installing iOS 4.1, not only was my calendar wiped clean but my Exchange e-mail was wiped out and to add insult to injury, I can no longer connect with my Exchange server.

It worked fine when I had iOS 4.0.2. If there is a way to re-install 4.0.2, I'd love to know.

I too have lost the contents of my diary following a sync to Outlook. To say that I am incandescent with anger only begins to describe how I feel.

I had not noticed (silly me) that syncing of new appointments to Outlook had stopped working after I upgraded to iOS 4.0.1. My outlook diary was therefore frozen in time back in August sometime. I then upgraded to iOS 4.1. Following another sync all the recent appointments were wiped from my iPhone, so it reflected the state of outlook. I just could not believe my eyes...

Ok I thought.. I will restore from an earlier backup. Surely that will fix it. But oh no, there is only one backup offered, which of course is too recent but I did it anyway because I didn't think I had anything to lose. Ha. As a result of restoring from the backup I have lost half my apps, randomly it seems including those recently installed and those I have paid for a long time ago.

I backup and sync my stuff for a reason. Because it is important that I don't lose anything. What the ** good is a backup/restore system that loses data? Don't tell me I should have updated to some other version of iTunes or whatever, the damage is done. The software, all versions of it, should just WORK.

Evidently I am not the only person affected by this severe shortcoming. I think Apple should acknowledge the problem and fix it as a matter of urgency.

How can it be that people began complaining about this crisis causing issue at the end of June and Apple has not responded yet? APPLE please help. We're in need. No one knows my calendar but my iPhone. Or at least my iPhone DID know my calendar. Now it appears to be gone. For weeks to come people are going to call me from work meetings that I don't know about asking where I am. This is a very stressful way to start the day on Monday. What am I obligated to do today??? Please tell me how I can get this precious information back.
