    Here is the KB article regarding Exchange in iOS4. I don't believe it's directly related to the issues here. I installed the updated profile, but haven't noticed any improvement with the 3G.

    Personally, John Reinhold's post seems to make the most sense to me. Hopefully we hear something soon.

    I restored my phone as new earlier today and never setup any Exchange accounts and I was still having the issues. Played around with it like that for about an hour or so before restoring my backup.

    This does coincide with what I was talking about on page 8 of this thread and in part, I think, it plays an important role; but I don't think that it's the entire problem. If anyone doesn't know what I'm talking about please read my post from page 8.

    I have yet to try this. I found the link to this configuration file on apples site last night. This could make sense, but I'm not sure everyone is using an exchange account. This definitely plays an important role in how the phone communicates with each cell tower/data node it's connected to.

    Still having the same issues out on Eastern Long Island.

    I will say 3G when I tried from 8AM until 4PMish was pretty good, never had a time out until 430ish. Now its timing out all the time. Yesterday it was like that too, so 2 days in a row its just been at night I've had issues...

    Still need a Fix on this ASAP however!

    I just installed the Configuration File. I'll give an update if it works. I've turned my exchange accounts off (turned off push and set fetch to manual. I'll update later with how 3G is performing.

    I think iPhone 4 has little to do with this. These frequent 3G data speed fluctuations, exactly how you describe them, were a way of life here in NYC Midtown and around for as along I owned at&t 3G phone - Samsung Blackjack (2 years), iPhone 3G (2 years) and now iPhone 4 (since 23rd). During lunch hours in Midtown data on all 3G phones will basically cease to exist. Annoying, minute by minute speed fluctuations would continue throughout a day and on weekends.

    Something like half a year ago at&t finally responded to criticisms about its network overload and slow speed in NYC and apparently added some capacity since data speeds in general increased dramatically but data speed fluctuations still continued but less frequently as well as dropped calls. I repeat, this all was happening with iPhones 3G and 3GS and other at&t 3G phone!

    First few days with iPhone 4 didn't drastically change the picture but I noticed substantially increased ability to hold onto signal in dead spots where my old iPhone 3G will loose data and voice. Granted I'm not suffering from the dead grip syndrome since I naturally hold phone in a safe way.

    This Monday at&t reportedly deployed a huge chunk of 850Mhz spectrum to relive network overload. Everybody at my office near Grand Central noticed it since on the street all 3G phone would switch to Edge. Next day things got much, much better. For the last 2 days data speeds on my iPhone 4 are totally incredible with web pages loading almost instantaneously and with minimum connection delays. Moreover speeds seem to be very stable throughout a day and I yet have to drop a call while previously it was a daily occurrence.

    All this only confirms to me that the problems lie squarely in at&t court.

    I had actually tried switching off the account, but I will try deleting it as I too have an exchange email account for Google.

    yeah, i had tried shutting it off at one point..without luck, deleting it completely seems to have helped. I was sitting in this same seat the other night at work with no 3g connectivity (full bars)...tonight, 3g works. and the only thing changed has been deleting that exchange account.

    I live in the Baltimore area and received my phone last Wednesday. The phones 3G data speed was lightning fast until yesterday and today . Now for large portions of the day Internet radio will barely play(vie tried 5 different radio apps) and they either woulnt load or would skip like crazy ) I coulnt google anything either.

    None of these problems were happening the first 5 days or so I had my phone . My wives iPhone 4 is also having the same recent problem. We both have cases on the phone.

    I have to assume based on my experience that this is another AT&T data network problem
    Combined with heavy usage with all the new phones .

    Did you merely delete it or did you also restore the phone. I initially did not think this was the problem because the other person I know that has the same issue does not have an exchange account, but I will try it for sure. Is there anyone who is consistently having this issue in the same location that does NOT have an exchange account?

    I am in MD (Between Baltimore and Wash D.C.). I have been having the same issues as everyone else..and decided to return my phone. The Apple Store in Columbia Mall exchange it for a refurb and I tested it when I got home both before and after I restored my data from backup (to ensure it wasn't some rogue app causing the problem). I am still having the same issue. Full bars but my 3G data speeds are absolutely HORRIBLE!

    I do not have an exchange account and have the issues. Zero chance that is whats causing 3G issues.

    Then thats even better news...becuse if things have got better for me, it is a network issue in regards to the ip4...meaning that it has gotten better here. So maybe it will get better all over.

    yeah i've live in cascade-fairwood area and ive never had problems with cell service up here. its gotten better if any change at all. but my iphone 4 is just terrible with 3g. and it just started happening on like monday night/ tuesday morning. over the weekend was fine and even at pride it was fine. but not these past couple days


    At least I'm not the only one.
    My brother just got an iPhone 4 as well and has been saying he's been having no issues...till he came by to drop off Apple Bumpers for my wife and I. He saw his 3G data tank too.
    Well...at least the bumper did help the cell signal "death grip" issue.
    Now hoping for a fix from Apple...


    Today things seem back to normal out here, what about you?
