Iphone 4 wont answer calls

Have the same problem. Had on my 3G as well. Was hoping it would go away with iOS 4. The only way I've found to sometimes get the phone to answer is to push the volume button to mute the call or press the home button. Then sometimes the phone will answer. On the 3G, I sometimes had the problem with Push messages as well. In that case, pushing the power button and then pushing it again will cause the slider to respond.

Same problem here on an iPhone 4 32Gb. Had the same issue with my 3G but it seems worse with the 4. Very disappointing for such a basic function - any ideas anyone?

I just had the problem happen for the second time this morning - both times on my iPhone 4. I never had this issue before, but now twice this week. I rarely do answer my phone though directly through the hand piece - usually it's through my car's BT interface. Does anyone know of a fix - this is a critical iPhone bug.

I first recognized the problem when I updated my 3Gs to OS 4.0. Now with my iPhone 4 I'm experiencing it almost every single call. This is getting to be very annoying seeing as there is no physical call answer button. I hope to see some solutions to this in the near future.

Add me to the list: Incoming important cross-country call starts ringing, and the slider is totally unresponsive -- missed the call. After the call went to voicemail, the slider responded.

Seems pretty clear it's a software glitch (something like phone ringer subroutine interfers with touchsceen/slider monitoring?) -- Apple needs to patch this asap.

Yes, it's happened on mine as well.

It seems when you are in a low reception area or loose reception that the phone gets "stuck" on trying. Also sending a lot of text messages seems to possible bring on the issue. (pictures etc)

I have seen the 3G near the signal strength bar disappear as well.

A reboot fixes this, until it gets stuck again.

I noticed this as well. I had a 3GS that I upgraded to ios4 and then got the iPhone 4 and restored it from the backup from the saved 3GS cause I really didn't want to add all my info into the new iPhone. I noticed these issues as well. Such as clicking answer on an incoming call doesn't work till about 5 seconds later. By this time I've clicked it 3 times or so and sometimes when it does actually answer I hit the end call because I keep hitting the answer button. Also when it is locked and I try to slide to answer it does the same thing. I also notice slow reaction time sometimes in safari when I try to click a button like add book mark or the bookmarks menu or the back button. I am thinking this problem was inherited because inured my 3GS backup to copy everything to my 4. For those if you that this is happening to did you also restore from a backup or just set it up as a new phone. Thanks

Oh and I want to add my wife also got an iphone4 and she didn't have one previously so no restore from back up. I did a test between mine and hers calling back and forth and it doesn't happen to hers and the phones are right next to rash other. Looking more like a restore from back up issue. Which ***** cause I hate setting up my whole phone.

Ok last one. I fixed my issue I had a ringtone for my wife and during the upgrade it got deleted some how. Well I changed it to a ringtone to something I had and I no longer have this issue. Hope this helps you guys.

I'm having the same issue, we pay all this money and we can't get a descent phone.

Same problem. I'm guessing that I experience this issue on 5-10% of my incoming calls.

Add one more to the list. It happens frequently. Sometimes the slider will move if I move my finger very slowly, sometimes it's completely unresponsive. I've tried hitting all of the other buttons to wake it up somehow, nothing seems to work.
