I had an iPhone 4 for 2 weeks, and it did not make any sound when sending a text. It only alerted me to incoming texts. Yesterday I got the phone replaced at Apple because of a major error it was having. This new phone DOES make a 'whoop' sound every time I send a text message and I hate it! If anybody knows how to change it or disable it that would be super helpful.
Turning the phone on silent with the switch on the side is not an option. I don't want my phone on silent, I want to hear it ring and hear incoming text messages but I DON'T need to hear a 'WHOOP' to alert me that a text actually sent.
I have read some posts about finding a file deep within the phone and replacing it, I will be looking into that later after work but if there was just a setting for this outgoing text message sound that I haven't found that would be way easier.
I currently have new mail AND sent mail set to the OFF position and yet I still do have a 'whoop' sound when I send and receive text messages. So that option does NOT change the text message sounds.
I have the same problem after I upgraded. I really liked my "vwoop" sound! I was able to work and not have to check my msgs every minute!! 😟 Did you find a way to get it back?? Let me know.. I cant seem to find a solution! Thx 🙂
WE (MARK FROM CUSTOMER SUPPORT WHOM IS REALLY AWSOME THANK YOU MARK FOR YOUR PATIENCE!!!!) FOUND IT!!! THE "VWOOP" SOUND WILL APPEAR AFTER YOU SYNC AND REBOOT YOUR PHONE FROM UPGRADING TO IOS4!! AWSOME!!!
I am having the exact same problem, I want this annoying woop sound off, in my sound settings i have turned off sent mail sound to off but this annoying sound still occurs, any ideas on how to delete it maybe by connecting the phone through shh
i agree, i cannot disable this sound, the sms text messaging sound which comes after sending a text and sms cannot be disabled on my iphone, im glad that i am not the only one experiencing this problem, does anyone kno where the sound files are kept on the iphone for a manual delete?
Alright guys i figured this out after going to my local apple store and asking. In settings > messages flip the switch to turn off MMS messaging. This somehow resets and turns off the whoop sound when a message is sent. Exit settings and send a test text message to make sure there is no sound when sent. You can then turn the same switch back on and there will be no whoop sound. Doesnt seem like it should work that way but i have been sending silent texts for weeks now!
Just rebooted my iPhone4 and it came back. I turn my SMS alert off at night so perhaps it's a bug that this part doesn't get turned back on until you reboot...
