iPhone 4/iOS 4 bluetooth muffled on other end

I don't know if it's the phone or the OS, but my headset worked fine with my iPhone 2g. On my new iPhone 4, every bluetooth headset I use connects fine and I can hear the caller perfect. Except, they say it sounds like there's a pillow over my mouth when I talk. To the point of not even recognizing what I say. I tried calling the house, and I can barely hear myself, and it will cut in and out. Anyone else getting this issue?

I too experience continued problems with my Jawbone icon connectivity to my new iphone4. It worked fine with my 3GS but now constantly disconnects and reconnects, all day long. Whenever I am on a call, the reception fades if I get the phone just inches away from the bluetooth headset - sort of defeats the purpose. If I put the phone in my pocket, on a holster or in a purse, the signal fades to obscurity. At this point the bluetooth is all but useless. I have taken to just using the phone without it. The phone works fine when held by hand - clear voice reception both ways. I have a bumper on mine. I have never experienced reception problems, other than the bluetooth issue.

Solution:

The last time that I restored my phone as "new phone" I realized that the phone have few of my old settings on it, weird right?

From that I understood that iTunes holds a settings file/files that being installed on the phone while restoring, probably the bluetooth configuration file is being installed as well (my iPhone 3Gs file)

So I created a new user on my Mac, started iTunes (Fresh iTunes Library) and then restores my iPhone to factory settings.

Then I loged-in back to my regular Mac User Account and synced my Apps, Music, Books.... Again. (Did not restore, just reinstall)

YES.. I lost all of my Apps Data, Text MSG's, Settings... But now it looks like my Bluetooth problems disappeared, I have no problem for the last 2 days.

I will keep you posted.

I'm having a similar issue with iPhone 4 bluetooth and my Parrot 9200. I use hands free in my car but even though it shows connected on both the iPhone 4 and my hands free device I loose audio. The only way to re-establish bluetooth audio is to manually disconnect and then reconnect. But this is only good for a minute or so or until some other application on my iPhone 4 sends audio, such as a news alert. Then I loose audio again.

I upgraded from an iPhone 3G to the iPhone 4. My iPhone 3G never had a problem with the bluetooth. This is a major issue that should never have left Apple's pre production testing.

I did a full restore, lost my IMs, etc. Was hoping this would solve the bluetooth issue but the same problem persists. Yesterday's patch did nothing for our problem. You can hear the other party fine in the earpiece but ALL of my callers have said I sound like I'm in a well; very muffled. It's almost like the tone is gone and only bass exists.

I wonder if this has to do with the Iphone 4's improved mic and wind noise reduction? Course, 3GS folks upgrading to the 4OS seem to have complaints as well.

Apple, I can't make calls in the car which means I get a ticket if I hold your phone. Also, many of us conduct business while on the road which means this problems is affecting people's livelihood, safety and overall productivity.

Bluetooth support that works isn't a luxury on your device. This ain't some silly game I can live without playing for a few weeks. This is a big deal. And I'm pretty sure it's an easy software solve.

You can keep your bumper case (that doesn't allow for third party connectors to even plug into), I'm good with the reception drama - the calls are fine in my world. This bluetooth thing is nonsense, however. There's no excuse for regressing in progress on a simple feature that the Iphone 1 did fine 2 years ago.

It's true, the recent upgrade to IOS4 does NOT fix the streaming audio via bluetooth problem . . I called Apple and spoke with a tech support person who (if you can believe this) told me that Apple is not aware of any bluetooth streaming audio problems with IOS4 and that he would "make a note of it." Is Apple kidding or what?? Is Apple turning into another Microsoft. I really feel duped because I have a 3G that received almost no benefit from the IOS4 upgrade and now my phone runs like snail, does weird things and WILL NOT STREAM MUSIC AUDIO TO MY CAR STEREO. What's worse, Apple will not allow us to return to IOS 3.13!!!!

So I went to Genius bar at a local Apple Store in Bellevue, WA, and the guy was friendly, and he was able to reproduce the issue on my phone. However, since we were able to reproduce the same issue on his phone, he said he can't exchange my phone for another one. He basically stated that wait for Apple to issue a patch and he will escalate the issue so that it will be known to Apple.

But.. Apple.. just look at this thread man.. that's all you really need.

Try it with Jawbone ICON & Plantronics Discovery 925, and it should be rather simple way to reproduce this issue.

I have had this issue since I got this phone the first week it came out. Outgoing calls on my bt devices are fine, incoming calls are terrible. I manage money and investments for a large clientele base and this is very frustrating and unprofessional. In the car, it is a continuous ordeal of having to call people back otherwise I sound like I'm "underwater."

This is absolutely unacceptable. I have been an iphone user since 2007. I have used apple products since college, in 2003. Apple used to be a company of quality and went against the grain of the straight and narrow *screw the consumer attitude* of other companies. Looks like apple is now just another greedy corporation releasing shoddy with no intention of fixing real issues--instead blaming optical illusions and forcing people to put rubber bands on the phone.

I called tech support and was told to upgrade bluetooth devices software. What rubbish. My car, jawbone, and other devices are brand new. Please, explain to me how I'm supposed to update car bluetooth?? Sure I'll just plug my Audi into the computer at home, that makes alot of sense. What idiots designed this software, let alone trained these so-called tech support people?

I am very unhappy and unimpressed apple. My clients are irritated. Your 30 days are coming up quick and I have no qualms returning this garbage at your expense and buying an android. At least google seems to be what you used to be, or claim to be. I'm hoping for a fix, or otherwise my next computer will NOT be an apple, and you will have lost my business permanently. I hear the zune is pretty good, maybe they'll make a phone...

Let's see if you step up to the plate Jobs.
